4 Must Do's To Be A Successful eBay Seller

I'm Don, I'm Jet City Mens here on eBay. I've been a Powerseller three times since early 2002. I've come back to eBay as a seller now and again, and whenever I truly put my heart into what I do here on eBay, I'm rewarded. I've discovered that being an online retailer is what truly makes me happy, and I think it's what I do best. I've decided to dedicate myself full-time to my dream. If you're thinking about selling on eBay, about establishing a major presence here, I have some Must Do advice that I've learned over the years.1. Love What You DoYou must be passionate about what you sell. When you're passionate about your products you can wax eloquently (yet truthfully) about them. I sell the most gorgeous bowling shirts. I own six myself. I feel confident that many many more people will love these bowling shirts. My feedback is more a testament to the customer's happiness with these products. Your passion, your joy will show, and it will catch on to your buyers. We reach our buyers with images and with words. You can add only so many images... put the time into your advertising/marketing/listing copy. Your time will be well rewarded.eBay is a great place to be. People whine about their fees. Here's what I say to them: I want you to go and generate millions of traffic, of potential buyers overnight with your own website. eBay might not be the end-all-be-all of ecommerce, but it's an important part, and it's a great place to start your own Empire! There's also a bounty of free selling resources here on eBay. They want you to be successful. You're in a great place to learn a fantastic way of life!2. Truly Respect Your BuyersI started on eBay as a buyer. I bought for three years on eBay before even thinking about selling. I came to love the wide array of stuff available on eBay. I also liked meeting and chatting with people from around the world. It takes no effort at all to be a kind, helpful eBayer, particularly as a seller. eBay is a place to find stuff you can't find anywhere else - brick and mortar stores have only so much real estate. eBay is also a place to get great deals. It is (mostly) a buyer's market. If you appeal to your buyers, communicate FOR and TO them, and treat them as you would a friend, you'll get repeat business, guaranteed. People don't want to be sold to, they want to buy and be excited about the process. Give it to them.I have many repeat customers from around the world, and I've negotiated large package deals online. I attribute my success to keeping my customer and his or her interests in the forefront at all times. 3. Treat your eBay business like a Fortune 500 BusinessGet a website with your eBay name, produce a good, clean website. Get a business license in your state/city. Get business cards and send a few of them with every shipment you make. Vistaprint makes nearly free cards here. Make an About Me page here on eBay. Look the part. Look like someone who knows what they're doing, and buyers will respect that.Download Turbo Lister and use it creatively.Ship Internationally. Probably 20% of my customers are from Europe, and I've made friends from people in England, Japan, Netherlands, and Canada. Don't rule out a significant audience just because the shipping is a little different. It's worth it, believe me.Reply to your questions/emails immediately, and do it with a smile. Write emails so that the reader will be able to envision your smiling face! Be upbeat, pleasant, and friendly. Success will be yours.4. Expect to be a SuccessIf you want to dabble in eBay selling, that's fine. Know that many

people work full-time as eBay sellers. It is how they make a living. It

can be done, it has been done, and it's been done by people who I'm

willing to bet aren't as gifted, intelligent, or as nice as YOU are!I've made some mistakes. You'll see I don't have a perfect 100% Feedback record. I do not cry over it. Some of my negative feedback I brought on myself, and I've learned from my mistakes. Some of my feedback absolutely couldn't have been helped. I do not let it get me down. Tomorrow is a new day. Learn from your mistakes. Adapt, change, evolve. Try new copywriting. Put your products in different categories. List your items in your eBay store, in auction format, and in Fixed Price format. Options, give it to them. Buy entrepreneurial books, marketing books, sales books. Read them, re-read them, and practice what they say.Ken Evoy's material (including Site Build It) is phenomenal. You can earn a Bachelor's Degree in online marketing and business if you bought and read all of his material. Jeffrey Gitomer's Little Red Book Of Selling is another must read. Inspirational, motivational, and instructional. You can't have enough learning material.
