WHERE TO GET STUFF TO SELL: POSTCARDS

WHERE TO GET STUFF TO SELL: POSTCARDS

Why postcards? They are easy to store, easy to ship, and easy to collect. Everyone seems to have a few. Postcards are the cheap souvenir to pick up on your trip, to send to friends while vacationing. People will buy them from you as sentimental reminders of good times and locations they enjoyed visiting, schools they went to, towns they lived in and so on.

Where to get them: A yard sale might not seem like a likely spot but it can be. Since most everyone has a few postcards, even if you don't see any out at the sale, ask. The householder may have some that she felt she wouldn't bother putting out.

Estates Sales: Usually postcards will be tossed into a box with other "stuff" and you might have to buy the whole box to get them. Indeed, it would be a good idea to not alert the seller that you are interested in them only because the price for them may suddenly skyrocket. So buy the whole box and donate the rest of the items to your local goodwill if you are only interested in your postcards.

Flea markets: Check the varous vendors. If they don't have any postcards available the day you are there, if you are willing to come back they might arrange to bring some for you. Never hurts to ask. We run an open air market and these kinds of deals go on all the time.

Antique shops: So the stuff in the window looks pricey? Don't let that stop you. Every antique shop owner gets boxes and boxes of stuff they consider as of less importance than their other finds. You can easily obtain a shoebox full of postcards from such a dealer for anywhere from $50 - $150.

Thrift stores: My favorite thrift store has a notecard section. In that section is one very small section of postcards. The postcards cost 10 cents each. The price hasn't changed in many years. I think I'm the only one that knows about it! :) Anyway, whenever I am there - about once a month - I am able to pick up a handful of postcards that they have put in since my last visit. Look around in your area- you might find the same kind of deal somewhere too.

New Postcards: New postcards are not expensive (hence their popularity). In some areas you can purchase them for as little as a quarter. You can then put them on eBay and sell them in mint condition for a lot more than you paid for them. Postcards available in your area are not necessarily available in other places and sometimes you might be the only supplier of them for your area. For example - for a long time now I have sold a new postcard of goats on the roof of a local restaurant. Since I live in a touristy area, folks that live elsewhere that have visited here will often purchase that postcard on line from me as a memento of the area. They may have missed that postcard when they were here.

EBAY: Some sellers specialize in selling items in bulk. Postcards are an item you can find a huge lot of at a good price. Even with the cost of shipping you will be able to strike some great deals. Sometimes too a seller has postcards but doesn't want to list them individually and so "just to get rid of them" they will put them on auction and if you are looking on a regular basis, you will find some great buys in the postcard field.
