DEMETER CULT FRAGRANCES

DEMETER CULT FRAGRANCESby sorenson-and-sons

I thought I'd try my hand at reviewing all the Demeter fragrances I have on hand and see how they really really smell. Please remember the following are my personal opinions and words and we all have those.

It is said and quote from the creator's of Demeter:

Each Demeter scent is meticulously researched, designed and hand-blended in the classic European tradition, using synthetic and naturally occurring ingredients and botanical derivatives.

Demeter captures the true essence of each scent. Whether it be Gin & Tonic, Leather or Angel Food, Demeter's technologically advanced fragrances allow you to scent the skin, as well as your personal space with scents that hearken back to childhood memories.

-Unquote

In addition what I have to say about the individual scents will also be determined by how they reacted with my chemistry and skin tone that day. This will be up-dated as I go along as each scent must be given at least 30 minutes for the dry down so I can be honest and fair in my review. In general I use only Perfume and layer up as my skin is dry therefore does not hold Cologne well. Hint...hint... if you have dry skin layer your fragrances and apply often. But here we go!!!

Demeter This Is Not A Pipe

First application: Pure comfort - Daddy's pipe and smile.

Dry Down: not nasty but like cherry pipe without the stink.

Opinion: (customer statement by A) You were sooooo right about This is Not A Pipe. It does smell like my daddy's pipe. I can totally imagine this fragrance with a flannel shirt! How butch, huh? LOL Just warm and comforting.

(Shab's Reply) I know! it's not over powering. It's just enough for the comforting memory. And, that is what Demeter delivers - memory. They really shouldn't even be classified as colognes but as Liquid Memory.

Demeter DaphneFirst application: Intense sweet floral - carnations?Dry Down: remains a sweet floral - very old fashioned floral and clean scent.

Opinion: Reminded me of the sweet flower itself with a tad of Ivory soap infused. Memories of an old English Garden at Grandma's house and bathtub time as a child - with the floating bar of Ivory soap! Also smells like a hyped up deeper and darker version of Funeral Home. Worth the investment. I would not wear it on hot days, but it makes a beautiful winter and fall scent.

Demeter Bonfire (Smoke)First application: Sweet burnt maple and the smoke that rises with that scent.Dry Down: burning bonfire of pure leaves, oak, maple - smoke.

Opinion: Right on the nail-head! This reminded me of when my Daddy would rake up the leaves into a giant pile and we would stand there and watch them burn. The odor of sweet smoke - mingled with maple and oak. It made me feel good, and smile as I remembered. A must have for Daddy's girl and for those guys looking for a chick magnet scent!

Demeter Fruit CakeFirst application: DO NOT put your nose to this right off as it's like pure alcohol. Prevalent after a few seconds is cinnamon, nutmeg and cherriesDry Down: cinnamon and cherry and maybe a hint of pine ???? of course I don't recall pine as an ingredient in Fruit Cake!!Opinion: has a decidedly Christmas memory of Fruit Cake but not my Mamma's Fruit Cake. It's missing the moist batter and raisins! Still all in all it's a nice sweet fragrance. I wouldn't buy a full size bottle though only a decant to wear now and again.

Demeter Sour Apple LollipopFirst application: strong granny smith apple peel scent that made my eyes widen and mouth water bringing the actual vision of a fat green apple with a sour under note. Not unpleasant at all! Not quite the sour apple lollipop candy scent I recall.Dry Down: still alive and now it really does smell like the taste of the candy sour apple lollipop when you first unwrap it and put it in your mouth. To me it also has the faint smell of the wrapper - a paper like smell.Opinion: worth the money for the memory and rather makes you crave the lollipop as the scent causes a physical reaction - salivating! In this case I say this Demeter is successful in capturing the memory of the scent and the brain has been triggered - go figure.

Demeter ThunderstormFirst application: - it's like Demeter's Firefly with the bug guts scent underlying, then a fleeting, almost an expectation of a metallic note which dissipates immediately, along with a strong rich earth - a lighter version of dirt - more like fresh tilled soil. I don't find the smell of a thunderstorm in this at all. Storms always smell electric or metallic to me. But the earthy scent of the aftermath of a thunderstorm is captured making this very pleasant.Dry Down: - although not unpleasant it is slightly sweet and earthy like it has Holy Water, Firefly and Dirt all mixed in - this is not not my favorite.Opinion: - reminds me of a nice retro 70's scent without the incense factor - not UN-enjoyable but to me misses the mark of the name Thunderstorm. Perhaps it is meant to capture all the scents associated with after the Thunderstorm and depending where you live I would say Demeter was somewhat successful in doing this. Maybe it calls for a renaming such as After The Storm! It just did not evoke the memory of an actual Thunderstorm for me.

Demeter TiramisuFirst application: burnt coconut custard, sweet liquor- evoking actual visions of baked sweet coconut cake dripping in sugar and whipped coca.Dry Down: coconut and hot sweet custard scent, with a linger of liquor - yum yum.Opinion: OMG! break out the phat pants cause this baby hits the mark! I fully expected the result of one of my my favorite childhood Italian desserts and I got the memory of it. A Demeter must own and sure to get ya licked. Not long lasting enough for me but absolutely wonderful. Ok ok... it's worth the spiked up brain function you get while it does last!

Demeter Pruning ShearsFirst application: very very sweet roses, like candied sugar roses - no note of a pair of pruning shears which to me smell cold and metallic, with a hint of soil.Dry Down: becomes deep and heavily steeped in rose oil which reminds me of the perfume JOY with more of a candied note.Opinion: I own a Greenhouse and of course many pruning shears and this smells nothing like the cutters. It is, however, a wonderful alternative to spending a fortune on JOY Perfume which I also own! In the dry down there is a hint of wet green grass - which I love. Heady! Worth the buck for the bang. One of the more lasting fragrances Demeter puts out.
