Did you know that most of the investment education packages being sold on the internet are actually unauthorized copies (80% of the Investools packages on Ebay are fakes!). They are actually quite easy to spot if you know the secrets.
1) Original DVD鈥檚 DO NOT come in plain white envelopes. They are either in plastic book cases, or mounted on a folder/holder (for newer versions). If the seller tells you that neither is included, then they are probably fakes. If ALL you see in the auction photo are the DVD鈥檚 with no holder or case you are probably dealing with a fake.
2) Original DVD鈥檚 have an Investools IC# identification number laser etched on the data side of the disk near the hub. If a seller does not mention this or does not answer your direct questions about this, then they are trying to pull one over on you. If there is NO laser marks, then it is a fake!
3) Original DVD鈥檚 have high gloss screen printed labels. Fakes either have a paper press-on label or are made on cheap printable media (looks dull and the colors may run if they get damp), Needless to say if the disk has markings on it like DVD R, or DVD-R, then it is fake.
4) Low feedback sellers with privatized feedback and a quick 1 or 3 day auction, are a dead giveaway for fakes. These sellers also frequently sell the same item numerous times, so check the sellers previous auctions to see if they have sold the same or similar packages before.
NOTE: just because the auction is private, is not a bad sign, (check the users feedback! If that is private then stay away). Personally we use private auctions a lot, in order to keep the privacy of our bidders. Winners of private auctions, can still leave feedback about the sale which is visible to everyone (check my feedback),
5) New items, or unopened items are also a dead giveaway for possible fakes. Think about it! If someone forks out anywhere from $5000 to $30,000 on a package, they are guaranteed to at least open it and look through it! Investools DOES NOT wholesale items to people for resale!
6) If the seller tells you they bought the set on ebay, or does not know very much about it, this should be a BIG warning sign. Most fake sellers use this tactic in order to claim innocence. This is also used by people who have been burned by professional fakers, and just want to unload their garbage.
7) Be VERY careful with people who say that web time is included in the package, as Investools DOES NOT allow the transfer of accounts. If there is some existing time on an account, then that is ALL the time you will ever get. When you try to renew the account, you will have to put a credit card on file, and when they see that the card name and file name do not match, the account will be locked. So DO NOT base your price on getting an Investools account.
8) Manuals NEVER come as PDF files or in electronic format! These are ALL fakes.
9) The higher the feedback of the seller, the better your chance of getting what you paid for!
I have personally been burnt by fakes a couple of times, and I have learned all the tricks to spotting the fakes. Check back soon as I will be auctioning my fake spotter info package.
If you have been sold a fake set, you should contact the seller directly and call him out on it. A reputable seller will work with you to correct the problem so that it is fair for everyone.
Protect yourself by buying from a high feedback seller!
By buying from a high feedback seller, you will probably be paying a little more for the item, but you will probably be getting a little more security and you will be getting original materials. If fakes are what you want, then go and download them off the internet for free (web address deleted in order to comply with ebay listing policies), DON鈥橳 enable fake sellers by bidding on their auctions. Lets keep ebay a safe and reputable place to trade.
