My Ebay Store HVa/c I got into HVAC back in 1987. I took a master course with NRI and I am glad I did. I have bidded against a lot of contractors and found that most are out for the money and do not think about the people as a whole. This is what I am getting at, Split System Air Conditioners and Heat Pump whether used with electric heat air handlers or Nat. or L.P gas furnaces are the most efficient units you can buy, other than geothermal heating and cooling which cost a lot more to have installed and the difference will never pay for itself. The Split System, is a pump on the outside and a air handler inside which consist of a blower, coil, and heating source which can be electric heat strip or gas furnace with a coil added . Now, alot of people have their gas frurnace or electric handler in the attic which is fine, others are inside home closet space or utility room which is great, and others under the floor in crawl space which is not good. That would be because you didn't have closet room or space in utility room or contractor didn't want to work in your attic, too hot so never suggested that or maybe you suggested it and contractor said it would not work. The truth is every air handler I have seen in craw; space was rusted, mold growing on insulation. Think about it, the attic is very hot, around 140 degrees and you don't have anything in the way of fixing that water leak in crawl space.FLEX DUCT. Mice love it and can get into your house and love to make nests out of insulation. PACKAGE UNITS. They will give you service for 10 to 15 years, but not efficient units. Coils get dirty, 7 out of 10 service calls I do has a dirty coil. Dont get me wrong split system coils get dirty too, but a little different to clean. To clean the coil on the package unit you have to take off the top of the package unit, under the top glued to the bottom side of top is insulation if the package unit has any age on it the instualion comes off in spots. I spend more time taping and sometimes cleaning off this junk so that the customer does not breathe it, than it take to fix the unit. Most every package unit I have serviced leads to a dirty coil, because most of the time the return is in the floor, the worst place for it to be. Package units are both heating and cooling in one box. Most access doors leak pulling outside air in ,which is not filtered inside the house. If you have a gas package unit and the heat exchanger leaks you have two options, pay high for a new heat exchanger or replace the whole unit which has a working air conditioner or vica versa. If compressor burns out then you have two options, either replace compressor or the whole unit, which has a working heating system. With a split system you would only have to replace the furnace leaving the coil and outside pump (air conditioner, heat pump) in tact or vica versa. If compressor burns out replace air conditioning unit leaving heat in tact. I have replaced split systems that had been in service for 32 years, which were Janitrol (Goodman). The oldest package unit I have replaced was 13 years old. Back to the attic installlation, that is the best place for air conditioning, because your vents are in the ceiling and cold air goes down. With the heating side in the attic you have cold feet because hot air goes up, the cooler air in your house is at the floor, but ceiling fans will take of this. Think about it, no holes cut out in your floor and no leaks around vent boots. If you have a system installed, have a Split System with all metal duct work no flex. Duct work is fine installed in crawl space but use all metal and clean out a closet for furnace above floor.
Now 10SEER,12SEER,13SEER,14SEER and these numbers keep going up in the Air to Air System. Go with the highest number if cost of installation isn't over a 400.00 dollars per number(10seer to 12seer,or 13seer to 14seer) Because if you pay too high it will never pay off. Something to think about. I hope I have been a help. Oyeah those Package Units are the quickest and easiest for the contractor to install and cheapest for the contractors to buy.
Heat pump are great. If you are buying a cental heating and air conditioning system, pay a little more and get a heat pump split system. The Heat Pump is air conditioning and heating unit that sets outside and is 1/2 of a split system.( heat pump also come in a package unit). The other half is eather a electric air handler or a gas furnace(duel fuel). If you are in cold climate in winter then your furnace is backup heat,(electric or gas). Where im from, a 10kW electric furnace will turn the wheel on the electric meter 33 times a min. The heat pump turn the same wheel 11 times a min., that is 66% less for the same heat. ASK for a split system heatpump.
Gas Furnaces are hot heat and great heat. My location, people have there own gas well and dont worry about the cost. You have gas furnace that can be one half of a split system or you have Package gas-electric units that heat and cool. The package comes in 10 and 12 seer cooling and 80% heating, but a package is a package is a package. The gas furnace come in 80% and 90% models. The 80%s has the double wall metal vent pipe and you lose 20% of the heat up the stack. The 93% furnace has a 2in PVC pipe for the vent stack(or flue) that only 7% is lost to the vent stack. In other words with the 80% every dollar you pay, 20 cents goes up the stack. With the 93%, you lose only 7 cents to the dollar. These are all the conditions where I am located. I am not wanting to down anyone, I am just trying to help. because ofter we get finished and get paid, We leave, and the customer pays the bills month after month after month.
Warranty.
Now we give warrany on our Goodman units and stand behind it ourself. You will find that the other guy has a factory warranty and is a A distributing company "the only one". Well hate to bust his bubble. The truth is Goodman dont give a warranty if purchased over the internet. Goodman Warranty page, "Goodmanmfg." Go to the warranty tab and scroll down the left side under "Unit purchased over the internet" or save yourself some time and just read it here
Goodman聮s policy concerning products purchased over the internet directly by consumers, as stated in our standard warranty documentation:聯No warranty is offered by Goodman on, any products ordered over the internet.聰
The other guy maybe a dealer with Goodman mfg, but willing to lie about factor warranty. I dont need your business bad enough to lie about a warranty. And if a business need your money bad enough to lie about a warranty, what will happen when you need a claim on warranty, the money goes the other way. Think about it. I have purchased from Goodman for 14 years (1992) and have found that the products and people are great.
Thanks for your time and dont forget to rate my guide.
