Some Additional Thoughts on Mac and the SURPLUS of counterfeit emerging...
First let me compliment the fellow Ebayers that took the time to write helpful and informative guides. Also, KUDOS to everyone that reads them. That being said , here goes it...
ALL of the information needed to avoid FAKE MAC is availible through guides and GREAT sellers that will answer questions . Take a few minutes and educate yourself, knowledge is power. So I am imploring Ebayers to do some research before you find yourself purchasing JUNK.
FIRST thing that comes to my mind, IF IT IS TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE...IT IS. Let's face it, 10 Full Size "MAC" pigments for $24.99 and a set of 10 MAC brushes as a "FREE GIFT" - Well, Nice thought and NOT GOING TO HAPPEN. PLEASE remember MAC names their shades - this "EUROPEAN Packaging" guise is a JOKE. NO NAME, NOT MAC. I began to see it with EYESHADOWS and PIGMENTS. It has spread to lipstick, lipglass (and BRUSHES) like wildfire. Just like high end purses, cosmetics get "copied" too. The brushes seem to be coming from the Far East and remember, some sellers use STOCK photos in the listing. So you are looking at the exact picture as you see of the BRUSH you want to purchase- when it's received- what you have is a cheap dime store cosmetic brush. The fake brushes are starting to have MAC and a # on it as well- some are dead give -a -ways that they are FAKE by adding MADE IN CHINA, also- but not always. If you do receive fake product, please report it to EBAY. I realize this is an arduous task and it seems EBAY won't do anything- BUT if enough people report the seller (usually low Feedback #'s) they will be banned. TRUE Ebayers protect our FEEDBACK and PAYPAL reputation like we do our children. That being said, Get to know your seller- drop an email, with a question, we will write back, sometimes it takes us a little bit but we will write back. I feel if you have nothing to hide than you won't mind helping someone decipher through this scam. Breaks my heart, as well as my fellow Mac sellers, when we get an email describing the fake merchandise purchased. I am confident in saying both myself and MANY other Mac sellers will help with questions. It's confusing, I too have to decipher through listings, as I buy from EBAY to resell as well.
Quick thoughts about unboxed MAC- DOES NOT Always mean it is FAKE. Boxes do get damaged, I damaged 3 myself today unpacking. BUT, MAC always sells boxed, even their "samples" are boxed. They will also be FULL SIZE (just labeled sample). Also, Don't fall for the use of the word DISCONTINUED as a key to authenticity either. Just because someone says it is only availible on that 1 site and/or country- DOESN'T make it true. Chances are if it is legit, it is availible on other listings ,as well ,or even still at Mac or @ Macy's , for example.
Remember- Mac never just numbers PIGMENT or EYESHADOW... for example "peach" or "peach frost #6" or worse yet #6. Don't let the seller trick you by saying he has listed the color, by what shade it is ,as opposed to the name -because the sticker and/or box is missing- Each day the counterfeit stuff gets better and better- If you do fall victim, don't be embarrassed, just report it as FAKE and PAY through Paypal so you have some recourse in getting monies back. The fakes are getting better and better. I saw LIPGLASS today that if wasnt for GLITTER LIPGLOSS written where LIPGLASS would normally be (and is on legit Mac) I would have sworn it was real. It was boxed, stickered and named- they also go after popular discontinued names as well now--- "THEY" think they are GOOD- Remember we as consumers, with knowledge, are BETTER. I will always help a fellow Ebayer out as will many of my fellow cosmetic sellers. Hope this helps, this is my first "rant" and will organize my thoughts on this subject and continue to post helpful thoughts and to share what I learn. Thanks !!
