Deceptive Knife Seller on Ebay -DANHOVIS*KNIVESPLUS50
Just letting everyone know about deceptive sellers on Ebay, knives in particular. Lets start out, I dont like to, and never had, prior to my experience with this seller leaving NEGATIVE FEEDBACK. But I feel you must know what this seller did, and maybe some others you encounter might do. 1) Don't ever buy a knife with a blurry photo. Its blurry for a reason. The cameras are too good these days for you not to be able to take a clear picture of the item for sale, even if you have to take it several times you'll eventually get a good one, and thats the one you will post. Most people. The deceptive sellers take blurry photos to hide problems and defining features of the knife that make it possible to desern the model, make, and it also will make it hard for you to see and to tell what blemishes and scatches, cracks are present. My advice; DONT BID on any knife that doesnt have a clear photo of an acceptible angle to view the knife. 2) Vague description. If a person who knows knives leaves a description, its usally very detailed. He wants the buyer to know what hes getting. The seller will list the chips, cracks, and the age if he can tell, handle materials etc. If the description says " 1000 Knife Estate I buy knife I found look good", Dont go there. This guy knows what he has, junk, and hes trying to trick you into thinking he's just an honest estate buyer who got "stuck" with some knives. If you think youre looking at a Damascus Blade, or a bone handle, youll be sorely disgusted when you recieve a piece of garbage "Made in China", fake etched Damascus Blade, with a plasitic handle. 3) If a seller is honest, they will let you return a knife he got the date wrong on, or didnt notice a crack at a pin on the handle, etc. These sellers list their items with a return policy. 4) If it doesnt have a return policy you are bidding at your own risk! If you do have a problem and need to communicate with the seller, let him know what the problem is and talk about it before you just send it back., In the past, I have offered to pay the shipping back if it was truly an honest mistake. Ill work with the guy. Now to my run in with a bonified deceptive knife seller. He did all the things I listed above. Blurry photo, vague description, no return policy, and since I bought several items at his "Estate Sale" on the same day he was nice enough to charged me $6.00 shipping for each item, a total of $18.00 for 3 knives that cost about $25.00. What a guy. I finally recieved the knives, and Lo an Behold a China made etched Damascus, and the 2 other knives he listed with "Abolone" handles, were plastic handled. He later said the spelling of "ABOLONE" and not ABALONE, must have surely tipped me off they were PLASTIC handles. Since I dont think he spelled a single thing correctly in any of his listings, I guess I was supposed to pick up on that well known fact. Well I eventually contacted him, and it went something like this; Im not Wal-Mart, and you thought you were going to steal a knife with your low bid, and the Abolone story yadda yadda. So I went to the arbitration site on EBAY, we traded a couple of emails, and and he still refused to do take any of the items back. This guy is EBAY's worst nightmare for selling. Since I'm honest, I didn't put in a negative feedback on him when I recieved the items, I just gave him a low key positive with the hopes we would resolve our difference. That was a BIG MISTAKE, he left negative feedback on me just for complaining to him in emails. I had paid him for all the knives immediately after the auctions were over! He has communicated with me several times now threatining to post more negative feedbacks on me, for no other reason other that I complained to him, and I'm trying to get my hard earned money back from the most deceptive seller I have ever encountered on EBAY. I hope this guide will help someone to stay away from deceptive sellers of knives and collectibles on EBAY . Thanks and GOD BLESS! *************************Im adding this today; 3-22-07... DANHOVIS tried to extort $100 from me to leave positve feedback for my 3 transactions.. I didnt pay, and he left 3 negatives. He is Ebay's worst nightmare. DANHOVIS IS A FEEDBACK EXTORTIONIST!!!! You buy from him and if he wants he will contact you and say I know a guy who pays $100 for good feedback, how much will yours be worth? And if you dont pay he will leave you a negative. What a stain to the earth. Hope this helps, God Bless. Im updating the guide today 9-27-07, DANHOVIS now has 35 negatives, and has been duping unsuspecting buyers and sellers the way as Ive outline in this review. Please tell your friends to read this before purchasing a knife. DANHOVIS also sells knives as user KNIFESLUS50. ******Update on 12-27-07**** "DANHOVIS" (Total of 46 negatives this year alone!!) has now been taken off of Ebay....BUT he is still out there as "KNIVESPLUS50"!!! Beware of this piece of dirt, he's still a theif and a liar, check out the feedback on that user name. To all the honest buyers and sellers...God Bless

How to avoid the fake The North Face McMurdo Parka
First, I would like to say that I have purchased a fake TNF McMurdo Parka on eBay and regret it ever since. The jacket is completely falling apart in front of my eyes in less than a week of wear. That being said, I am listing here some ways you can tell a real TNF McMurdo Parka from a fake one before you even attempt to purchase/bid on one on eBay and if you did purchase one already, how you can tell if its authentic or not so you can get your money back. Yes eBay is trying to clean up the fakes on their site but some items
slip through the cracks. I would avoid purchasing ANY TNF items on eBay
for the time being and just buy it from a reliable source such as from authorized TNF dealers.So how can you tell if the McMurdo Parka is fake from the get go? The image is probably the biggest tipoff, if they are using stock photos of the item a red flag should be going off immediately. You shouldn't buy The North Face items based on the stock photos, not just because any seller can get one just by going to TNF website but because you most likely wont be getting whats on that stock photo.The price. Why would anyone sell their Brand New McMurdo Parka for $150 if the MSRP is $299?? Are they stupid or just being really really nice. Let me put it this way: If you purchased a brand new item for $300 and decided the next day that you didn't want it but couldn't return it anymore, would you resell it at half the price the day after? No, you wouldn't because you're not stupid.Look in the seller's store inventory. If they sell nothing else but TNF Denalis, McMurdo Parkas, 2-in-1 Goretex Mountain Jackets, than chances are they are all fake as these are probably the top 3 faked items on the counterfeit market in regards to TNF products. Also, I"ve been seeing alot of Steep Tech fakes such as the Agency and Apogee jackets. Besides, who has such an unlimited supply of these jackets and not an authorized TNF dealer?How can you tell if your TNF McMurdo Parka is fake?Check the Faux Fur trim on the hood. If it looks like roadkill, its fake. Its not as full as the authentic one at all. Just compare and contrast the fur, its not even close. The authentic fur on the hood is much thicker.Example: Fake McMurdo fur hood, looks like roadkill

TRUTH ABOUT PITBULLS and AB1634 MANDATORY ALTERING~*
~Lisa and pet Chloe, shown above~
@@@@*UPDATE@@@@@ Make sure to see the dog blogs below under PITBULLS--updated February 2008----very important to know who is working against the dogs,owners,dog breeders,pet laws, and more}}}
FLASH---AB1634: PROPOSES TO ELIMINATE 98% OF ALL DOGS/CATS BY MANDATORY SPAY/NEUTER --BEING REVIEWED BY LEGISLATURE SOON--2008!!
[proposed law was shot down July 2007; Levine withdrew it but has vowed to bring it back in Jan 2008, and Levine was pushing Los Angeles' MSN on 2/2/08, which has been approved 100% so far]
The MSN law is seriously flawed, it has not worked in 95% of the places which passed it, and eliminating 98% of all dogs/cats (but NOT feral cats!)-- by claiming it is necessary to save the 2% of animals which cannot find homes in California is just plain ludicrous. They already passed SB861 (co-authored by BadRap dog rescue of SF, CA United Animal Nations, Jennifer Fearing, Sacramento, now at HSUS--NOT surprising) mandating altering for all pitbulls And NOW they want to do the entire state.
In fact Los Angeles just voted affirmatively on it on February 2 2008. On its face, altering appears to "save animals" but unfortunately, that isn't near the entire story. What it comes down to is that altering privately owned animals but NOT feral cats means you immediately will NOT be saving many more cats, but you WILL be killing more DOGS. (Those that rescue animals already know this, except for Judie Mancuso, the co-author of AB1634. She is naive to think it will work.)
It should be mentioned that in June 2007, Levine had the proposed AB1634 worded whereby it stated, that IF one was to be allowed to have ONE litter (and only one) of pups, the owner of the litter MUST GIVE THE PUPS AWAY FOR FREE. REPEAT--THE OWNER MUST GIVE THE PUPS AWAY FOR FREE. [To get out of the accusation that this would amount to a "taking", the owner would be required, upon obtaining the permit to have the litter, to sign a statement which in effect, meant that owner was taking the litter permit in consideration for signing the document giving animal control the right to search owner's house/and agreeing to give the pups away for FREE.] Obviously, no reputable breeder in their right mind would sign such a document, and the extremists know that.
It's a sad day in the United States when radicals (animal rights extremists)-- think they can affect every pet owner in this way. check out baddoglaws.com or saveourdogs.net for details. Especially note that ADL (Animal Defense League of Los Angeles) which has placed relentless pressure on Los Angeles to "stop" the killing, has used criminal tactics and tertiary targeting to make it known they will NOT stop. [ADL is considered a wanna-be ALF or ELF and while they may not rise to the same terrorist level on the surface, they are monitored by the FBI as links to the others.] And unknown to most until recently, certain animal rights extremists attempted last year to snuff out a well known canine advocate; the perpetrator (one of them) will be sentenced to federal prison soon when his sentence is approved--which will likely be between 25-39 years prison time, with no time credit for good behavior. So don't believe that animal extremists don't commit crimes against people--they most certainly do. And it is not surprising that canine advocates or breast cancer scientists are targeted.
Of course ADL explains clearly that they are VEGANS and protest all forms of animal useage. baddoglaws shows ADL's exact words where they openly admit they are a grassroots militant group that will use tactics that can put them in jail and that they will not bail out of jail. Why, that would be compromising their wonderful ethics, eh?
TRUTH ABOUT PITBULLS
OHIO SUPREME COURT HEARS TELLINGS CASE
August 1 2007, the Ohio Supreme Court ruled AGAINST the dog owners! A reconsideration filed for the record was not acted upon by the court, so an appeal to the US Supreme court followed. Unfortunately, the court declined to hear the case; as approx. 5,500 cases are submitted per year, the Court hears only about 110 of them. There are currently BSL cases in Aurora, Colorado and Denver, Colorado. A BSL case in Arkansas Federal Court was recently originally started by RDOWS. Also, the federal district case against Los Angeles mandated spay/neuter (after a year and a half) was dismissed by Judge Chesney of San Francisco, but again, this is not that surprising (for federal court, especially the 9th Circuit, which has the largest amout of cases overturned by higher courts in the United States.)
As an example: Judge Chesney sentenced Issac Asimov's son, who had 14 printers going, printing child porn---to wearing an ankle bracelet. [Issac Asimov, noted author]You can see that San Francisco is completely nuts. They condone marriage between same sexed persons, but want to eliminate dogs having puppies. Check out Craigslist online in SF and see what sexual topics are allowed, while dog/puppy rehoming for fees which they "feel" are "selling" are not allowed, and most will be flagged off.
Some AB1634 proponents are now trying to say that the court has ruled mandated altering as constitutional and that AB1634 is therefore "constitutional"......
This is an incorrect statement--the court in SF, only said that a local area (not a state) has the right, under rational basis, to implement laws involving the health, safety or welfare of its citizens, which is typical for them to say for ANY challenge to any constitutional case. All challenges as such, use the same standard. It should be noted that the Judge did not go into detail, because it is probably already known that if this was challenged on a statewide basis law (not a local law), it would likely prove to be "not" constitutional.
Based upon the Los Angeles allegation of "overpopulation", the Judge said it was rational as to the local area at issue- but that is NOT saying it is rational for the entire state. Proponents of AB1634 will have a large battle on their hands.
@@@@@{{{Know thy Enemy}}}}@@@@@
Colleen Lynn of Seattle WA was allegedly bit by a dog and then commenced, supposedly, 100% on her own accord, (according to Kory Nelson of Denver) to start the bite blog known as dogsbite dot org. The site is updated and filled with every single news report she can gather, whether true or not, and then it is compounded by showing graphic photos of bite victims, and how victims are not monetarily compensated properly. This site is focusing and fosters hate against dogs, dog owners, dog breeders, and other legal entities.
It pushes, promotes, and perpetuates hatred toward law abiding people, dog owners, dog advocates, and anyone who dares to take a stand against something like preserving one's rights. Why? Because the site does NOTHING more than attempt to list "pitbull" incidents as evidence that the dogs are all timebombs waiting to happen. It does nothing but push sensationalism, drama, and accounts which have likely not been verified. Further, it then highlights the statements of idiots; for example, one recent statement:
"PITBULLS AND ANGRY PEOPLE SHARE THE SAME DNA"
This was taken from an article written by Mike Scarlett out of Australia, on 2/14/08, and HE even cites the CDC "statistics"...he then goes into a biblical connection and somehow tries to link killer dogs with killer people.
Everyone who knows anything about canines should be closely monitoring this blog (but don't send in any comments to the owner) because this is how hate crime is perpetuated. RDOWS has already called Kory Nelson on it (see the RDOWS Wordpress blog by RDOWS) but of course he claims she did it "all herself." Right--a person who doesn't have a dog and likes cats, who has an art degree is NOW a canine expert???? Pushing M. Clifton and his news clippings? Trying to disguise the site as a "victim" site?? Come on, that site is nothing more than a thinly veiled, financially motivated, hate site against people who own certain breeds of dogs, and where Nelson and Clifton claim such dog breeds need to be taken out.
If Nelson wants to call ACF strawmen for dogfighters, and then proceeds to say the same thing about those who advocate for the dogs, we all know where his head is at----and he is giving this blog owner ALL the information he can, so he can continue on his manic way of pusing BSL across the country.
Look at whydogsbite.blogspot.com for a good laugh in testing your canine IQ so you can recover from looking at the senseless junk being perpetuated by a newly minted "dog expert" webmaster. People underestimate the damage this junk can do to dog owners.
Greetings........
We are advocates against anti-pet laws and against Breed Specific Legislation, Mandatory altering, and any canine laws that we consider unconstitutional. If you know anything about bully dogs, APBTs, etc, then you know that the proper temperament for an APBT is non human aggressive. That the PSI of the jaw is NOT 2,600psi. (That is likely an alligator.) It has been theorized by the Science Channel on TV that a T-Rex dinosaur may have had a bite pressure of 4,000 lb? The average dog bite pressure is about 320psi.
A rather recent troubling web site has appeared out of Seattle WA, by a webmaster named Colleen Lynn. Sadly, she chooses to use her talent to publish and focus hatred toward owners of dogs that may be pitbulls, resemble pitbulls, or even are pitbull dogs. We know there is no canine breed known as pitbull but we speak generically here. In addition, she blatantly states that it is the "ANTI BSL LOBBY" that needs to change the laws to get victims compensated when they are bitten by dogs. That may be true, if only because she is guided by the "messenger" boy Nelson??!! And surely Lynn isn't going to get the job done. That's obvious.
It is believed that Kory Nelson, city attorney out of Denver, self-proclaimed "messenger" and self-titled "political' pundit (for who? PETA? HSUS?) has again employed his solicitation tactics, this time focusing on individual victims, and using his authority from his professional job (if we can call his behavior professional?) to solicit both people and city councils alike. Apparently telling the SF Chronicle that it is justified to shoot a pitbull running in the street was not good enough of a pitch for him. He has to go further. And indeed he has.
Check brent's blog, which is btoellner.typepad.com/kcdogblog, (unofficial watchdog on animal welfare issues) and discuss the hatred the site above (not watchdog site) uses to show people should not own any dog "they" "think" are all timebombs waiting to go off....and which has listed a contact phone number to a Chevron gas station under WHOIS. Which was later changed to the "Seattle Police Dept."...and then changed again after Police Dept. found out. How is that for credibility? The site is strictly for propaganda purposes, as no discussion is actually allowed, especially if one is pro-dog. (Trust us, anyone who would parrot K Nelson and his manic drive to kill dogs cannot be a thinking individual)
Myths are perpetuated by many, especially animal extremists. They love to say that spay/neuter will cure all. What it will do is stop the end of well-tempered dogs being born. In fact, one of the city council persons personally stated that they will "alter them out of existence", in reference to pitbull type dogs--and this is common thinking among those that wish to generalize about the dogs. Many of the "new" laws being pushed keep claiming that this will stop "dangerous" dogs---but just think about it for a second.............. 99.9% of ALL show/champion/obedience dogs are NOT altered. Millions of non-altered dogs are FINE and present no problems to society. In fact, show/obedience/champion/titled,etc, that is, dogs that have received PLENTY of training, are "OKAY" to breed, but others are eliminated.
Anyone who knows anything about canines realizes this is simply ridiculous, inconsistent, and hypocritical. Yet the extremists push it because it gives them power over "animal control." They use it as a stepping stone. Extremists have infiltrated many animal pounds, shelters. Achieving a PETA 'NO BIRTH NATION' IS JUST AROUND THE CORNER WITH MANDATED ALTERING--if you don't know what No Birth Nation is, google it and it will lead right to PETA.
One rescue we know in Sacramento will not allow any of their animals to be adopted to the Greater BAY AREA anymore. Why? The Bay has been instrumental in pushing mandatory altering for everything alive; hence, there are few/no pups available to adopt. If the dog fanciers/owners in the Bay don't care enough to even challenge their own unconstitutional law which allows breed specific discrimination, then when those same people cannot find a pup to adopt or buy in their own darn neighborhood, well that's just too bad isn't it?
Altering will not cure dog -human aggression. (If you want to know why they say these things, it's because their known goal is to eliminate animals as pets. They believe this is slavery....they believe animals are not a commodity. ) ISAR (International Society for Animal Rights) claims that purebred dogs are the "Plague of Purebreds" and they blame the AKC for issuing paper on purebred dogs, and for creating genetic misfits. Check online for the ISAR site where you will see this is their position. When you hear Bob Barker tell everyone to spay/neuter, you are listening to the number one ISAR spokesperson.
First they say eliminate this breed. Then, eliminate all breeding. Then, eliminate all dogs being sold. Then, eliminate all dogs as pets. It's not that difficult to figure out. They even tell us that is their plan. PETA, in particular, advocates to kill all pitbulls to end "abuse" of the dogs. (Shall we eliminate abused kids to end their abuse?! What about the ABUSER????) PETA GOT OFF REAL REAL EASY on the felony animal abuse charges--they were charged instead with "littering"!!! and using false information to gain possession of the dogs they killed. They killed almost 100 animals and then threw them in dumpsters. That was definitely NOT justice served in North Carolina!! PETA managed to kill 97% of the pets they took in for 2006, and adopted out 12. Wonder why they didn't kill the last 12, so they could make it 100% kill???
Media reports are just THAT---stories. Many of them are wrong and call every dog alive a "pitbull".....so you cannot believe 70% of them. We advocate both at the legislative level, and in the courts to right the wrongs that lawmakers create. It's sad but true, that many people 'create' bad dogs by NOT training, NOT socializing, and abuse. Many 'bad' dogs are created through the environment, but many animal extremists believe that breeders create all the bad-tempered dogs by design.
Even the Best Friends Animal Society in Utah has decided (without any expert help) that "aggression" is 'bred into the genes' of dogs by people who want aggressive dogs; they have decided that they want to promote the EUROPEAN method of aggressive dog control--what is that? It's called banning breeds and killing them. (If you don't know what they have banned in Europe, please do the research-----CORGIS are restricted in Italy, as an example, no minors or criminal can own them; there are about 90 other restricted breeds!)
Did you know that it is impossible to scientifically determine which dog is an American Pitbull Terrier? Many laws assume that people can tell which dog is an APBT because it "looks" like one. This is not the case. Many dogs 'look' like a pitbull type dog but are just mixed breed dogs and some are not even mixed with APBT. Although the COURTS have stated that people know what type dog they own, in CRIMINAL cases, the government must prove the dog's breed beyond a reasonable doubt under laws which single out dog breeds. This is not possible with American Pitbull Terriers. And is not likely easily done with several other breeds from mixed parentage.
BSL? It cannot be proven to work because scientifically, no dog breed is inherently dangerous. IF it was true, we would have a lot more people who sustain serious injuries---come now---if you can call ONE breed inherently dangerous, then that breed would all be doing the same thing in huge numbers. Instead of 10 fatal attacks, we would have 10,000 of them. And we don't. One of the largest problems of BSL is that it promotes certain breeds as DEFINITELY dangerous and ignores other breeds---then the public believes they are "protected" from being harmed. What the public doesn't understand is, the chance of being maimed fatally by ANY dog is about the same as being struck by lightning. And come to think of it, if one only thinks about that one issue (being maimed by a dog)--you know what? If you keep thinking of it day after day after day, it WILL eventually happen to you if your mind power is seriously used. So be careful what you think about!
Please----let's get one thing straight when it comes to BSL laws. It doesn't matter how the law is worded, when the owner is subject to CRIMINAL SANCTIONS---the government must prove beyond a reasonable doubt, as in any other criminal matter, that the owner is guilty. The standard of proof cannot be deviated from-----therefore, if the government cannot prove the dog in question is actually what the government claims it is, then the owner cannot be convicted. This is usually never mentioned when you hear about BSL cases----because the government (which passes BSL ) wants people to think that just owning a dog makes the owner guilty of, or subject to, a crime. This is not the case. If you own a dog that may resemble a banned breed, you would do well to consult with an attorney familiar with BSL cases PRIOR to both licensing and registering the dog.
NATHAN WINOGRAD HAS JUST RELEASED HIS NEW BOOK ENTITLED "REDEMPTION" WHICH BASICALLY EXPLAINS WHY
1) THERE IS NO REAL ANIMAL "OVERPOPULATION"
2) SHELTERS THEMSELVES ARE PART OF THE PROBLEM IN FAILING THE ANIMALS AND NOT FINDING THEM HOMES FOR MANY REASONS.
If you do not know who Nathan is, we suggest you research online. He has always been right and is still right today. His group has just filed a lawsuit against Los Angeles and M. Mayeda for failing to proeprly care for the animals and failing to abide by CA law/killing animals early.
People love to blame APBTs and protection line dogs. The statistics show that fatal attacks are not done all by APBTs. And the CDC studies are nonsense because they didn't even get all the dog breeds listed, which skews the entire study. The CDC admits this and cautions NOT to use their study as a reliable source of percentages. Yet many dog BITE attorneys quote that study like it was the Bible. Governmental authorities and animal extremists like to use it to bolster their position for breed bans and mandatory spay/neuter. In Los Angeles they actually think they can implement mandatory altering for all dogs, then they plan to call all pitbulls "unadoptable" and ban them from the city once they get the no-kill scheme in place. Hmm....we see a problem there.
Recently evidence has shown that "rehomed", rescued and shelter dogs are responsible for a substantial amount of the fatal attacks across the country. [Only approx. 15% of all dogs are from shelters.] Nearly 40% of the attacks have been attributed to "altered" (meaning neutered) dogs, despite the false 'theory' that altered dogs make a dog "non-aggressive" to people.
What is not surprising about this, is the fact that many rescue people believe in "saving" animals that do NOT have good temperaments, and they believe that the dog may bite people, but it won't bite people IF you do such-and-such with the dog. An example: Rescue from around Fairfield, CA, collected mostly bad dogs to adopt out. One dog had already been returned 3-4 times for aggression. Another was a known biter. Another was anti-social and hated kids. Another had already harmed a child. But still, these dogs were being adopted out. AND the leader of the rescue claimed there was nothing wrong with these dogs.
Sure enough, a poster on infamous Craigslist, posted the story of adopting the known biter. She took the dog home and it immediately tried to bite a family member. The rescuer person then lashed out at the adopter and blamed her for letting a family member attempt to pet the dog. When we see scenarios like this, we are not surprised at the number of dog altercations out there. Thank God, this rescue is no longer showing pets at Pet Smart in Sacramento, and the rescue has closed down.
Another study done/ recently published, in attempting to categorize dogs which bite children, showed that 93% of the dogs which had bitten children were ALTERED. This was surprising to the people doing the study, as many believe that altering a dog will render it non-aggressive. This is not true and in some instances it might reduce some dog-dog aggression, whereas in others it may have little and no effect.
~~~~~DOG SAFETY ~~~~~~~~~~~~~
For new dog owners without any dog experience, it is best to avoid a dog where you cannot ascertain the history of its background, esp. if you have small kids such as age 4. Many dogs are mistreated and if temperament testing does not show aggression, they assume the dog is ok when it is NOT ok. This has nothing to do with breed of dog but everything to do with the unknown background.
One of the best defenses against dog BITES is to safety train your kids *BEFORE* you get a dog, no matter what type dog it is. It is a fact that many bites are done by smaller dogs, and it is a fact that many owners of smaller dogs allow the dogs to rule the roost, and thereby allow the dog to control the master.
When this is done by a larger dog, everyone blames the dog. When this is done by a smaller dog, very few people blame the dog. Lots and lots of small, yappy dogs are biters. And having owners that let them get away with such behavior is inappropriate.
One of the key goals we have is to take down the law in Colorado involving APBTs and mixed APBTs. Kory Nelson needs to go as well. Currently there are two lawsuits in Colorado challenging the law.
If you want to know more,contact us.
Colorado is particularly disturbing because Kory Nelson loves gloating about the dogs going down, yet he claims he had nothing to do with the law. However, if you read his "secret government" Yahoo Groups website (you can see it on doggiedefenders.com) you will quickly see that this person has a personal agenda against both the dogs and those who rally to try and protect innocent canines. You will notice the similarity to the dogsbite site by Lynn, mentioned above. There is no discussion allowed, just their views and their adamant ranting that they won't stop what they are doing.
It's a downright shame to see an attorney pimp himself off as a self-proclaimed BSL man, and he was quoted in the SF Chronicle as saying that a person is justified to shoot a pitbull in the street.
We consult with groups all over the United States on dangerous dog issues, dangerous dog law, trial for unconstitutional canine laws, illegal seizure, civil rights issues.
We have been on ebay since 2000. Help us save all dog breeds from extinction. Mandatory spay/neuter of all dogs is unconstitutional AND it will not stop dangerous and aggressive dogs. Remember---Rosa Parks was just one person. Yet her act alone changed the course of history. Don't ever think that what YOU do doesn't count. We are all good at something, and every good thing counts. We do it for the dogs.
Maybe you do too.
Deliver Your Baby And Love It !
This guide is intended to inform you of things you can do to make your "BirthDay" the most pleasurable experience. I am a mother of four with experience in delivering babies in three different atmospheres.
Be informed.
You will not experience a flaw free birth if you do not educate yourself. Do not expect that your doctor will inform you of everything you need to know either. Before making any decision, speak to a Doctor and a mid-wife. Ask for patient referrals. Ask them to tell you how important your decisions are in their care for you. Get them to put it in writing, and you will see how truthful they are. Research all of the Hospitals, birthing centers, and midwives in your area, and find out thier mortality rate for babies and mothers. Look for amenities that you are looking for.many mid-wives offer portable birthing pools, most birthing centers have pools or tubs, and some hospitals offer bathtubs in the room. If you like to soak in the tub, this is a must for you. However some hospitals do not have a doppler that will allow you to be monitored in the water, so pass it up because it is not worth the hassle if you have to get in and out.Know beforehand your quickest route for the mid-wife to get to your house, or you to get to the hospital or birthing center. Find out how many people will be allowed to be with you. If you want your older children to be with you, find out if it is allowed. Find out if your spouse is allowed to stay overnight with you. Get the price up front. Set up a payment plan, or file your insurance.Research and see if you are eligible for medicaid (many states have money available for mothers even if you don't live in poverty and have insurance.) if you are self pay, and you decide to deliver in the hospital, remember that their are hidden charges for things such as receiving blankets, and in some places tv use.Get an itemized list of what you will be charged for.
There are many books to choose from, but many contradict each other. I reccomend four books. If you read these, I assure you that you will have the confidence , and wisdom to be able to conceive and Deliver your baby laughing !
How to Find Inventory for your Ebay StoreGymb
The big thing everyone wants to know about selling on eBay is where to
find the stuff to sell. Most people won't give you the time of
day if you ask them where they get their inventory, so I'm about to let
you in on a big secret. There are three basic steps to finding
things to sell: figuring out what you should sell, finding it, and
knowing how much to pay for it.
The most important thing you need to know when you're thinking about
what to sell is go with what you know and like. Think about
it. I sell (mostly) children's clothing because I have a child
and enjoy finding cute clothes for her (and other children). A
single, 40-year-old man probably wouldn't have the first clue about
selling children's clothes, but he might be great at selling automotive
parts. It is almost impossible to pick up something that you have
no interest in just because you might be able to make some money from
it. You CAN make money selling almost anything, but you'll have
FUN doing it if it is something you truly enjoy.
Figuring out what you like isn't as hard as it might seem. My
husband used to tell me that if I could shop for a living we'd be
millionaires. Well, we're not millionaires by any means, but I do
get to shop for a living now, and I love it! Shopping isn't work
for me, but I know plenty of people for who it is. My dad hates
shopping for clothing, but can spend hours in an antique store, when
I'm yawing after 10 minutes. Sell what you like!
After you figure out what you want to sell, you have to be able to find
the inventory to sell. Because I sell mostly clothing, I can't
speak for other areas, but I can give you a basic idea of where to find
inventory. This is important: THERE IS NO SUPER-SECRET PLACE
WHERE E-BAYERS FIND THEIR INVENTORY!!! Inventory can be found in
the most usual places. Shop the clearance racks at your favorite
stores. There are a good 10 stores in my area that I shop for my
inventory. The secret to finding the "good stuff" is to SHOP
OFTEN! If you only go to your favorite store once every two
months, there's a good chance you'll miss out on the clearance
items. Go to your favorite places at least once every two weeks,
if only to scope out what's out there. Try to visit stores in
less populated areas so that there is more selection. Finding
your favorite places WILL TAKE SOME WORK, but it will be worth it in
the end when you have great stuff to sell!
Okay, so you've figured out what to sell and you've figured out where
to find it, now you need to know how much you should pay for it.
First, it's important to know that everyone makes mistakes when
purchasing inventory. I'd bought things for way too much and
passed things up that could have been great. First, if you have
an idea of what you are going to be shopping for, look at completed
auctions on eBay for those items. For example, if you know that
The Children's Place has a great sale going on, check out auctions of
that brand to see how much things are selling for. When you get
to the store, you'll have a basic idea of how much you can sell an item
for, and be able to buy it for an amount that makes sense to you.
Personally, I try not to pay more than 20% of retail price for items,
knowing that I'll probably be able to sell them for 40-60% of
retail. This is a formula you'll need to work out for yourself,
however, based on what you sell.
It's important to note that you must SPEND MONEY TO MAKE MONEY, even if
it's just a little bit. Do your research, take $50, buy things
you think will sell, sell them, and then go shopping again with your
profits. It can take some time to build up your capital, but it
will be worth it!
Good luck!
The Absolute Beginners Guide to Digital Info Products
Digital information products are fiction and non-fiction writings that can be downloaded, viewed, and created on computers. In this article you will learn about the different types of digital information (info) products, and where you can get them for free.When people talk about digital info products they are talking about e-books, reports, and articles. The difference between them is the size, e-books generally 10 pages plus, articles being one page, and reports in-between. In saying that, there are no hard and fast definitions as the author usually will decide.E-booksThe words ebook and e-book are used interchangeably and is literally an electronic (or digital) version of a book. The term can also refer to a hardware device that is used to read digital information products (ebooks). For the purpose of this article I will use the term e-book to mean individual work in digital format. Popular e-book formats - Image files: This format can generally be viewed on all computers and are generally much larger than the other formats. - .PDF: These files require adobe acrobat reader to view. - .DOC & .TXT: - These are more easily editable and viewed with windows MS Word, and notepad respectively. - .EXE: - These files can only be viewed in windows, and sometimes require the user to be logged onto the internet to view. Also note you may require an SP2 fix to view some .exe e-books. - .HTML: - This is a common web page format, viewable on your internet browser.Advantages - Text can be searched. - Takes up little space. - Can be used with text-to-speech software. - Low cost distribution.Disadvantages - Can be incompatible with some computers. - Can be hard on the eyes. - In some cases e-book can be hacked. - Care required in file handling to avoid damage or loss.Private Label Rights (PLR)PLR is where you have the rights to change the info product in any way that you desire. Often you will find PLR ebooks where you can insert your own links in the ebook. There are many PLR articles out there, and they are designed to be altered and then republished. Duplicate content is frowned upon by search engines, article sites, and visitors.Resell RightsWhen an ebook contains resell rights it means that you can sell it for profit, and then your customer can also sell for profit. Resell Rights are a huge selling point and make ebooks a lot more popular. The most valuable resell rights are the ones that are limited. For example, say the author only sells 100 resell rights, then there are only 101 people selling the product. Whereas if the same ebook has full resell rights to all then the first 100 could sell to 10, thus creating 1,000 people selling. Then end result with more resellers, the price/value of the ebook will generally decrease.Where can I get Info Products for free?There are many places you can get free ebooks. Try using your favourite search engine to search for earn smart free ebooks is a good place to start. There are also many free ebook directories which are easily found through your favourite search engine.
PC Building A Computer FAQ
11 Steps to successfully building your PC Author: Greg Monkiewicze-mail: gmonkiewicz@gmail.comWarning: Some tweaks and steps mentioned in this guide such as overclocking are ment to be used by experienced users only and not by beginners. I am not liable for any damage that could have been caused by this guide. Index of reference: ---------Contents:---------1.Body Step 1: Preparing your case. Get your case ready before you get started Step 2: Adding power. If your case didn't come with a PSU it is time to install it now. Step 3: Preparing your motherboard, installing the backplate and mounting it,. Screw the motherboard mounts into your case, install the backplate and mount the motherboard. Step4: Socketing your processor and adding the memory. Install your CPU and RAM modules. Step 5: Arming the switches. Connect the case switches and lights to your motherboard. Step 6: Powering external peripherals. If your case and your motherboard have them, connect them. Step7: Installing your video card. Step 8: Taking your computer for a test ride. Giving it a test boot will help you solve your problems easier than having to deal with all of the hardware at once. Step 9: Preparing your hard drives and optical drives. Connecting your hard devices. Setting jumpers, powering them and connecting them to your motherboard. Mounting them into your case. Step 10: Installing the rest of your cards such as your sound card, TV tuner, etc. Step 11: Final steps. Connecting any remaining peripherals to the PSU such as fans. Configure your Bios to have to correct CPU speed and boot drive. Vocabulary: Don't know what PSU means? Definitions will be listed below. 2. Credits3. Legal4. Contact Information------- Step 1: ------- Most PC cases are packed with a small amount of hardware. Things such as screws, standoff mounts, front-mounted USB ports and proper screws for fans should all be included in a box inside your case. Before continuing any further you must first remove your case door and pull out that box. Since the case will be probably laid down on its side to facilitate your job it is suggested to take off the other side panel in order to prevent it from getting scratched. ------- Step 2: ------- If your case didn't come with a PSU (power supply) then you need to install the one that you bought. Normally there is some sort of mounting bracket screwed onto the back of the case. You need to first unscrew it, and then slide the power supply into your case and screw the bracket down. ------- Step 3: ------- To mount your motherboard you must first install the motherboard mounts into your case. Each motherboard has a somewhat different standoff configuration. All that you must do is hold the motherboard close to the tray and note which holes line up with the holes on the tray. It is important that you do not add any extra standoffs since short contacts on the back of your motherboard can render your system unbootable or can either cause permanent damage to your hardware. There are dozens of possible backplate configurations, the thing on the back of your case with holes for the PS/2 USB etc. Each motherboard comes with a custom plate which can be placed into a standard size hole in your case. It is to be mounted from the inside. Make sure that is facing the right way. The PS/2 ports or usually near the PSU. To install the motherboard you must simply line up its rear connectors at a rough 45 degree angle and slide it in. Once you have lined up the backplate and the rear connectors then lower the front edge of the motherboard. And screw down the motherboard. Make sure not to strip the screws. ------- Step 4: ------- The most delicate part of assembling your entire system is socketing your processor. Make sure you are grounded before you handle your CPU. You may simply touch a metal portion of the case before you pick it up. For the Athlon and Pentium 4 procedure is simple, but if you have a new Intel LGA775 processor it is more complicated. (later on) The first step that you must do is lift the little lever beside the socket. The processor will slip into the socket by itself without any means of force if properly aligned. Once it is sitting in its socket you can lower the lever back down until you hear it click. Now you NEED to add thermal paste to the CPU. If you are using a stock heatsink you may use the thermal pad that is provided. If not, apply a thin layer of paste to your CPU's heat spreader and smooth it down with a business card. This is usually as simple as setting the heatsink in the socket, lining up a couple of clips and snapping them into place. Intel's new LGA775 CPU is supposed to have a new era of performance by removing the need for pins in the CPU and reducing resistance. The socket's life span is a skimpy 25 insertions. Before you handle a processor make sure you are grounded. Unlock the socket leaver and flip the load plate open. Remove this plate and keep it in some safe area. If you need to ship the motherboard back without a processor in it this cover will provide protection. Pick up the CPU with your fingers and carefully align it with the notches in the socket. The CPU simply must be inserted straight down into the socket. Be careful not to drop the processor or let it slide when you seat it since this little movement will be capable to bend the pins. Once the CPU is seated and the notches match you finally have to put the load plate back down and lower the socket lever. Job Done. Installing the memory, RAM, is very easy. Before you install the memory you should first consult your motherboard's documentation to determine which slots need to be filled in order to enable dual-channel mode. Usually the slots are color coded but this can differ among manufacturers. Examine the Ram and the memory lot and note that the sticks only go in one way. You must simply line up the notch in the RAM stick with the slot and then push down on the stick while applying even force to both ends of the stick until it clicks into place. ------- Step 5: ------- To connect the case's buttons and light to your motherboard you will have to consult your motherboard's manual since each motherboard is different. Connecting the headers is as simple as lining up the pins and adding a little amount of force until the wire slides into place. All that is needed to get your system up and running is the power switch connector. Once you have connected the reset and power switches it is time for the lights to be plugged in. It doe not matter which wire goes to which lead for the switches but the lights require proper polarity. Your manual will be able to tell you which of the pins are positive and if you do manage to get it backwards nothing will happen so do not worry. ------- Step 6: ------- Connecting a USB and FireWire post is extremely easy since case enclosures include pre-configured connectors for each type of port. All that is needed to be done is to line up the connectors with the appropriate header on the motherboard and gently push down. FireWire and USB cables are both keyed so they won't go in if they are not aligned properly. Sometimes you will find a case where the USB cables are not in a convenient block but are instead each separate wire. You must consult your motherboard manual in that case to make sure that you connect your wires correctly. You must be absolutely certain that you do not switch the USB and the FireWire headers. If you make a mistake and plug the wrong device into the wrong port you can destroy both the device and the motherboard. Many motherboards lack onboard headers for front mounted FireWire but there is alternative since most Sound Blaster Audigy 2 cards include internal FireWire headers, When installing the soundcard just slip your fireWire cable onto the header at the top of the PCI card. ------- Step 7: ------- To install a video card is simple. First of all you need to remove the slot cover (metal) that lines up with the AGP or PCI Express slot. If you are having trouble telling which the video card slot is, you can usually choose the one closest to your CPU. The trick to installing if to apply an even gentle push across the length of the board. There should be no need at all to push hard to get an AGP or PCI Express card into its slot. Just make sure to line up the card's backplate with the slot and make sure that the card is level with the slot and gently push the card down into the slot. Once the card is properly inserted into the slot you must then screw the backplate into the case and connect any external power from the power supply if needed. If your graphics card needs multiple power inputs then you should refrain yourself from using one cable with two ends since it will not deliver enough power. ------- Step 8: ------- Before installing all of the hardware you should take a moment and power up your computer to make sure everything is working properly. Make sure that the ATX power connector is in (the big one) that comes out of your PSU. You cannot connect it in a wrong fashion since it is keyed. You should also connect the ATX 12V connector to your motherboard and it too will only fit one way. Verify that your CPU fan is connected to either a three pin motherboard header marked CPU or to a four pin Molex connector from your PSU. When all of your power connectors are in place, connect your keyboard, monitor and power to the system. You should be able to see the POST screen. ------- Step 9: ------- Before being able to use your HD you must first consult your case manual and mount whatever is necessary to install your hard drive in your case. Then you must configure your hard drive for your machine. There are currently two types of basic hard drives today. There is the familiar parallel ATA which uses the wide 80-pi ribbon cable and the new Serial ATA (SATA). Two drives may be connected to a standard Parallel ATA ribbon while on a SATA cable only one drive can be connected. Parallel ATA can be either used with Hard Drives or Optical Drives. They are configured using the master and slave method. Parallel ATA drives connect to the IDE ports on your mother and each port is single IDE channel. Your machine will only be able to either read or write to one drive at a time if you have two drives connected to your IDE ribbon. You must set up a drive's master/slave setting with plastic jumpers in order to use either one or two drives. To find the jumper settings simply look at the device's configuration labeled on it or look in its manual. There are three main different configurations that you can chose to use for parallel ATA devices. You can use the Hard Drive and Optical Drive on separate channels mode which means that each drive has its own channel and at the system can access both drives at the same time. The performance issue is good when you are copying big chunks of data from an optical drive to your hard drive. You can use the Hard Drive on one channel, two optical drives on the second channel which means that your hard drive is going to be on the primary channel while the other two optical drives will be sharing the secondary IDE channel. This is great for optical drive to Hard Drive performance for either drive but it is pointless to do optical to optical disk copying since both drives share the same time and only one drive will be able to read or write at a given time. The last configuration that is possible to use is the each drive on its own channel mode which would be perfect since each hard drive and optical drive would have its own IDE channel and all devices would be capable of working simultaneously. This mode will allow you to do optical to optical copying without a problem, HD to HD copying and optical to HD copying without any problems. The procedure to mount a HD is different in every case. You would most probably like to slide your hard drive into one of the 3.5 inch bays with the connector side out. When the drives are in the drive I recommend using two screws on each side of the drive. If you use less screws then your drive will be unstable and will be prone to moving around and there is not point of having more since that is just too much. To connect your drives you will simply have to connect the power to your hard drives from your PSU and the data connectors. If you are using SATA drives then you job is simple. You must simply plug each drive into one of your motherboard's SATA ports. It is recommended to use the ports built into your motherboard's chipset for the drive that will contain your bootable version of Windows. It is possible to find which ports on your motherboard are SATA controllers since it can be found in your motherboard manual. You should be careful not to add too much pressure since the SATA controllers are fragile and can easily break. Some SATA drives offer both types of power connectors, the four pin Molex and the new SATA connectors. DO NOT USER BOTH CONNECTORS! since it will fry your drive. You may use either or since it does not really matter. To insert the cable it is as easy as aligning it with the port and using even pressure to push the cable into the port. If you are planning on installing Windows on a parallel drive it is recommended to use native parallel ATA ports since you will have to suffer the hassle of installing mass storage controller drivers every time you reinstall windows if you use a RAID controller. Configuring your Optical Drive is as easy as configuring It to be the proper master or slave. To determine what the settings are you should refer to the top of the drive where normally the configuration is displayed for the jumpers. To mount the optical drive you must simply remove the front slot cover from your case and push in your optical drive in thru the front. To connect your optical drive you must simply follow the same steps as with your HD. You must simply connect your power supply and data connectors to the drive. The old analog or SPDIF connectors on the optical drive are no longer needed to be connected since all drives can digitally extract CD audio. ------- Step 10:------- Installing the rest of your cards such as your sound card, TV tuner, network card and any other type of card that you may want should be installed with this simple procedure. First you must remove the slot covers (metal) covers from your case for the PCI slot you want to use. You may decide to use whichever one you want since it really doesn't matter. Next line up the card with the slot, push down on the card evenly into place and then lock it down using screws. ------- Step 11:------- It must feel great to know that you have complete putting all of your components together but you aren't done yet if you really are a PC enthusiast. You must first do a complete double check to see if everything is properly connected and that your cables are tidy by tucking them out of sight which will improve air flow and tidiness. You then must tweak your BIOS for Performance and Reliability. You must first press the "del" key or F2 while computer is POSTing. You should first adjust your memory latencies. These small settings can yield big performance gains. You can find the memory timings setting normally in the Advanced Chipset submenu of the main screen. You must change your "Configure SDRAM Timing by" setting from "SPD" to "Manual" or "User". SPD uses the default settings which were built into the chip. The "Manual" or "User" setting allows you to determine the settings for your RAM Clock, CAS Latency, Row Precharge Timing, RAS Pulse Width, RAS to CAS Delay and the Bank interleave. Memory speeds are measured in MHz and the latency is how fast the module can send and receive a request. DDR RAM is capable of having a CAS latency of 2.0 or 2.5/. To improve performance you should try lowering your latency values. If your CAS latency is 3.00 you can try to lower it to 2.5 and see if your system works properly. If it does then you can try to lower it to 2.0 and see if it can handle those timings too. If not then move it back up to 2.5. You can try the same with the other settings as well. To test the stability of your memory you should get yourself a memory benchmarking utility such as http://www.memtest86.com/Memtest86. The other main settings that you must tweak before you start installing Windows are the CPU speed and the boot order. Adjusting the CPU speed is as simple as entering the appropriate submenu and setting CPU speed to automatic. If you feel confident you may try to do some overclocking techniques to make the best out of your processor. You must never forget that to do this you also need appropriate memory which can take the heat. An important thing to also set in your BIOS is the boot order which will let it know which hard drive to boot off first. You should look for a setting labeled "Boot Order" and change the default order so that your main HD is first. This will allow you to boot off of the HD without waiting for the optical drives to spin up every time you boot the system. -----------Vocabulary: -----------BIOS: Basic Input-Output System CAS: How quickly a module can send date after receiving a request. CPU: Central Processing Unit or Computer Processor DDR: Double Data Rate Dual-Channel: Running two exact memory modules which boosts performance since two tasks can be done at any given time. You may write and read information simultaneously. HD: Hard Disk Drive IDE: Intelligent Drive Electronics or Integrated Drive Electronics MHz: Megahertz POST: Power On Self-Test PSU: Power Supply Unit RAM: Random Access Memory or Computer Memory SATA: Serial ATA, ATA stands for Advanced Technology Attachment SDRAM: Synchronous dynamic random access memory SPD: Speed
How to Clean Your Laptop or psp Screen
Do you miss that shiny new laptop look or the clear psp screen you used to have? Here's how to brew your own laptop screen cleaning kit with household ingredients.
Steps
Dilute isopropyl alcohol into a mix with no more than 50% alcohol and the rest distilled water.
Apply the mix to a cotton cloth, like an old T-shirt, lint-free microfiber cloth, or other very soft cloth. A large cloth is best, since it will help reduce the risk that finger pressure leaves streaks in the screen.
Wipe the cloth against the screen, in a counter-clockwise or other consistent motion.
Take care not to press your fingers into the cloth (and screen) but apply an even pressure to the cloth.
Tips
Expensive store-bought products such as Kensington Screen Guardian contain the same mixture of alcohol and water. 3M's Antistatic Cleaning Solution contains this same mix plus Ethylene Glycol.
If you apply too much (drippy/overly damp), wipe it off with a soft cloth and apply less.
Tissues will likely leave flakes of paper on your monitor. It's better to not even try it.
You don't want mineral spots on your screen, so don't use tap water.
Using a 100% cotton cloth or shirt alone, without the alcohol mix, can sometimes produce the same smudge-free results without going to the trouble of mixing your own solution.
If you're a photographer, you can use your lint-free lens wipes instead of a soft cotton cloth.
Where To Purchase Items To Sell On eBay....
1. The first thing you should do is sign up on mailing lists. This way you can receive special treatment.
You will receive notice of sales before the general public and you will also get lots of coupons and online savings codes.
Here are a few stores to sign up for:Old Navy, Gap, Gymboree, Bath and Body Works, Wet Seal, Banana Republic, The Limited, Abercrombie & Fitch, The Children鈥檚 Place, Osh Kosh B鈥橤osh, Babies R鈥?Us, Charlotte Russe, Hollister, Lane Bryant, and MiMi Maternity
2. Get the newspaper. Go to McDonalds and look at the paper on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday if you can鈥檛 pay to have it delivered. You could also ask a friend or relative who subscribes to save it for you. All you need are the ads anyway. Look for departments store coupons, hobby store ads like buy one get one free, etc. and other sales. You will be surprised at how much money you can save with these coupons. Also, look at the weekend bargains. I have found several lots of children鈥檚 clothing for low prices that yielded a high profit.
3. Department and retail store shopping are another great resource for finding good bargains on clothing for all sizes. If you have access to a good, higher end department store where they sell name brand clothing such as Tommy Hilfiger, Osh Kosh, and Ralph Lauren then you are pretty lucky. This is where the newspaper comes in handy. They will announce their big sales via the newspaper and they will also put out coupons in the paper. They tend to be aggresive about marking down merchandise to move it out. A good rule of thumb is to wait until things are marked down 50-75% and then they do an additional percentage off on top of that. I tend to s buy any of the Ralph Lauren, Osh Kosh, Tommy Hilfiger, maternity, or plus size items at this level of markdowns unless they are very unappealing.
4. Outlet and Clearance Stores such as Marshall鈥檚, TJ Maxx, Dillards Clearance Center, Nordstrom's Rack, Neiman Marcus Last Chance, Gap Outlet, Children鈥檚 Place Outlet, Ross Dress for Less, Tuesday Mornings, etc. Sign up for their mailing lists too! Make sure you do not buy anything with a damage clothing tag. For example, Gap will sometimes put a gold line through their outlet merchandise. Avoid these if possible.
5. Clearance or going out of business sales are a great place to stock up on lots of items. Also, buy out of season merchandise or stock up after holidays. Use a central location in your home to store all of these items. Be organized with your stocking procedures and try to keep inventory of what you have in stock so that you can beat all of the competition by listing the current seasons items before that buying season even starts. Costumes are a perfect example. These do really well on eBay and you can buy these for more than 50% off after the holiday. Christmas dresses and upscale boutique brand Christmas outfits are another freat example. Just think ahead, sit down and decide what you think might be a plan you could afford and live with (the inventory) to get a start on next year! Hit those sales, especially with a friend.
6. Garage Sales are my favorite place to great bargains on lots of everything. Don鈥檛 be afraid to negotiate your prices. The sellers are trying to get rid of this stuff. The best time to hit the sale is when it first begins to get the best selection and/or towards the end of the sale because that is when you get the best prices. People are ready to just get rid of their items and not take them back in the house. Get excited if it rains that morning. This simply means fewer people to compete with and more negotiating room. You can do a search on eBay using completed items found in the advance search to see what is selling well. Garage sales are a great place to find stuff for eBay. To me it is like a treasure hunt. I always use code words if I bring a friend and want advice about the value of an item. Instead of saying 鈥淒o you think this will sell well on eBay鈥? I say, 鈥淒o you think Carla would like this?鈥?Sellers aren鈥檛 willing to negotiate if they know you are buying it to turn a profit. I also like to have someone on standby so that I can call them to have them look up items on eBay before purchasing.
7. Other places to find great inventory are the following: Flea Markets, trade show, friends, family, consignment stores, thrift stores, Goodwill, clothing exchanges, and auction wholesale lots. More websites to check are: Bidville, IOffer, ePier, Free Site, What鈥檚 Your Deal, and Craig鈥檚 List.
8. Free Merchandise: Join your local Freecycle this is a great website where people post their unwanted items and if you are interested you can let them know directly. People get rid of books, toys, appliances, clothes and so much more.
*Seller Secrets: First, build up revenue in you Paypal account to use for inventory purchases. Second, pick a store that will have an upcoming sale (this is where being on mailing lists come into play). For example let鈥榮 use Gap. Now, search eBay for a Gap gift card. I have purchased a $500.00 Gap card for $425.00. I saved $75.00 before the sales! Wait for the sale. Buy only clearance and sale items. To save even more shop through Ebates when it applies.
Probably the biggest children's clothing niche on eBay is Gymboree. This is primarily because Gymboree has amazingly adorable clothing for children and it is very well made so it lasts for a very long time. One of the biggest benefits to Gymboree sales is the Gymbucks program. The way the Gymbucks program works is that during the earning period you get a $25 Gymbuck for every $50 you spend. To redeem the Gymbucks you spend $50 and then get $25 off (basically 50% off) during the redemption period. The best thing to do is buy sets at 60% off or more and hold them until the next season. This is exactly how Gymboree Powersellers on eBay are buying Gymboree to sell. I too have sold lots of Gymboree items using this method and I can confirm that it is very lucrative.
For the best info on selling Gymboree, I highly recommend Gymboree News & Gossip Column. This site has all the relevant information on buying and selling Gymboree clothes for resale or personal use as well as which lines are the hottest sellers, when to buy, what to buy, how to buy, and lots more. If you sell Gymboree or just adore their clothes and want to get the best bargains then this is one subscription you need. It is very affordable considering the amount of money you can save because she gives you updates on every sale, coupons, Gymbucks, and what lines and specific eBay Gymboree items have sold for the most money recently. If you sell Gymboree then this is a must have!
Gently used Gymboree sometimes can sell for a higher profit than new with tags Gymboree. The reason is because the lines are no longer sold after a certain time and they become collector's items in a way. Here is an example: Check out this auction. This outfit didn't retail for that price when it was new!
Don鈥檛 forget to always make note of the Gymboree line you are buying since you will get more bidders by listing the line name in the title (you can check online atGymboree or check out Gymbohaven for line names.
Baby Gap is a pretty popular eBay clothing seller. To maximize your profit try to buy things at the end of season when they are marked down to 60-80% off. Remember to check the web site as well as stores since the web site can have many fantastic deals for resale.Now if you live in the following cities then you are in luck because Gap has distribution centers located there where you can get first quality Gap merchandise for super low prices which means great resale for you on eBay. They are located in: Edgewood, Maryland; Erlanger, Kentucky; Fishkill, New York; Fresno, California; Gallatin, Tennessee; Groveport, Ohio; Toronto/Brampton, Ontario, Canada
Tips for buying clothing:1. Buy sets or outfits since people will always bid higher and pay a bit more for an entire outfit versus a single item. Girls lines always sell better than boys.2. The best selling sizes are girls 18 months -6x and boys 12 months to 4t.3. Infant sizes do not sell well.4. Try to only purchase what you can get for 60% off or more and plan on holding those until next season. I never buy anything that isn鈥檛 at least 40% off. You can also buy the current lines or season but you must immediately turn around and sell them on eBay.5. Shopping at the end of a season or on holiday weekends yield good sales and high turn around profits.6. Buy in volume when available. This saves time in having to relist each item. Saving time means making money.
Being a Good eBay group leader
Being the leader of an eBay group has it鈥檚 rewards, if the Leader is a good one.What makes a good leader of a Group ?1. Be Optimistic, and positive, and willing to learn from the members.2. Be fair in Your decision making, and consult your Moderators.3. Respect individuals for the person they are.4. Be Active in your groups you lead.5. Have a good group of moderators, and confer with them, before making decisions.When you are a leader of a group, you lead by example. Help those who need help, as well as let others help. Keeping a group atmosphere lighthearted is a must. If you can keep the atmosphere in a group , lighthearted, you will find your members are much more comfortable, and will be more active.Keep trouble out of the group, groups are meant to be fun, and a place where members can meet other members and form friendships, as well as learn, or ask for help.You have to like people, in order to be a good leader. Be helpful to those who need help. Treat people like you would want to be treated.There is a phrase that I have always applied to myself 鈥?If everyone were just like me, what kind of people would everyone be鈥?? And The old saying 鈥?what goes around, comes around鈥?When you apply those two phrases to yourself as a Leader, you can tell what kind of leader you are.It may seem like a small thing, but joking and playing in a group is Very important.It is another way of keeping the atmosphere lighthearted and comfortable, make sure your members know you are just playing or joking with them.One thing I have done, is to post a slight variation of my ID, instead of signing it with my name, or ID, I would post 1lilnaughtybirdy2, instead of 1lilbirdy2. So even tho it may seem like a small thing, it goes a long way in helping keep your group lighthearted.(this was something I learned from one of my members)Complimenting your members, on things is something that will help keep them active in the group. If someone posts something funny, or shows a photo of something, give them a compliment, it costs nothing and will make them feel good too. Be honest in your compliments too.Try to be positive at all times, and this will help others stay positive, and help keep negative things away from your group.Like I said, we lead by Example, so if you are leading in the right direction, others will follow.Your moderators are a very important part of your group, take your time and choose your moderators well, and listen to them, let them know you want their honest opinions, and be open minded to all they say.One of the Best things I have found is having a Co-Leader, who has the same ideals and goals for the group that you have. Your Co-Leader can make decisions and take action when needed. Make sure your members know who your Co-Leader is, and that this person has full authority in the group the same as you have.One last thing, equally important as all of the above, you can not please everyone, but if the majority are pleased with you, don鈥檛 let that one that isn鈥檛 pleased, cause you distress. If you make a mistake, admit it, and go on. Your members would rather have someone who does make mistakes, rather than someone who is perfect all the time.
Antique Axes: buying them to use them
Many e-bayers buy antique axes on e-bay for the "collector" value of the axe/head. Highly sought after axes include Mann, Kelly, Collins, Plumb, Wm Frankfurth, and others. For these collectors, the markings on the axe, whether it has the original handle, its condition, and its uniqueness are of paramount concern.
However, as many tool enthusiasts already know, good tool-grade steel is hard to come by these days and you must pay a premium for it in a new product. This is why many Milwaukee bits and blades are made in Germany or Switzerland. However, antique axes are often made of the highest quality steel with good Rockwell hardness. In fact, it is often very difficult to sharpen them by hand without a diamond file, and they will hold an edge like you won't believe. Moreover, they are a timeless tool and will last more than a lifetime if properly cared for.
The tool enthusianst who buys an axe head for use has different priorities than the collector. For the enthusiast, rust, an original handle and clear markings are not very important, as all that matters is the steel and the edge. Many axe heads that lack the collector qualities can be bought at a very reasonable (dare I say cheap?) price. However, if you're going to rehandle and sharpen and use the axe, there are certain things that you need to be concerned about that the collector does not. First, make sure there are no chips in the blade, because as I stated, sharpening the axe is a real chore, and you shouldn't do it with a power grinder (you'll ruin the temper in the blade and it will become brittle and chip easily), so you don't want any chips which will take FOREVER to file away by hand. (Collectors probably don't have to be concerned so much with blade chips as they can be said to confer "character" to the head). Often, the sellers don't know anything about axe heads and don't know what you plan to use it for, so they take a photo over some surface like carpet or newspaper that may obscure chips on the edges. Request a photo over a plain white surface or ask specifically about chips. Also, there should be no cracks in the head, which often occur around the "eye" of the axe. In addition, because axes are often abused, make sure that the sides of the eye have not been beaten to death (when, for example, the side of a double blade axe overlying the center/eye is used as a hammer) such that the channel of the eye is narrowed and re-handling will be difficult if not impossible. Also, some users will whack on the top or bottom edge of the axe to force the handle on or off, and if the steel mushrooms over the edges of the eye, this can make rehandling difficult also. One last thing is to make sure you know the dimensions of the eye, as odd-sized eyes can be difficult to find handles for.
Regarding the steel of the axe, the best is thought to be in Mann axes (knot klipper), or Kelly (vulcan and others); however I have a Wm Frankfurth that is RAZOR sharp and SUPER hard, and stays that way. But really, you can't go wrong with most of these axes including Plumb, Collins, Warren, Keen Kutter and others, many of which were hand hammered and are very very good quality steel. To get such quality steel in a modern axe, you will pay $75-150 for a Sweedish axe from Wetterlings or Gransfors.....and you won't have the joy of selecting, sharpening, and rehandling it yourself! (You can hand select quality replacement handles at Sears for $8.99). When you're done, you'll have a highly functional, German tool-steel quality, antique axe that you can take pride in when you use it or when you simply display it!
Buyers beware your gonna like this seller *awesome*
I just wanted to to everybody that not all guides are warnings or bad news. I am posting great news about a seller I have had incredible easy, fast, polite, and most of the good value from this seller. I feel confident to recommend them.
Jaye is an author published under pen name Sheryl Lynn who has donated autograph books for our charity to auction. We are overwhelmed at her generosity and are grateful . Jaye8698 is one of our benefactors who does with creativity like only a outstanding author could do. Her support is unwavering and the generous donations provided will help to give the Baldwin Highlander Marching the support to particapate in Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade 2006.
They are kind and generous and have helped out many charities with donating, bidding and buying items. However most impressive one thing that stands out is the customer service I received when I won an auction. My treasure ( a turtle) was carefully wrapped , securely boxed and shipped so fast I could not believe it.
Now this generous seller is offering some great auctions at very reasonable prices with no overcharges on shipping . You can be sure if you purchase a one of a kind beaded item, there will not be another like it. Quality will be superb and the price very reasonable.
Sweepstakes Guide....Enter And Win!
People Really Do Win
The biggest misconception about sweepstakes is that no one really wins. As someone who has been extremely successful ($25,000 worth) over the past three years, I can tell you honestly that people really do win!
It takes some luck, yes, but moreso, it takes a system and persistence. You probably won't win if you simply enter a few sweepstakes, but if you enter them in quantity, you're very likely to see results.
Types Of Sweepstakes
Sweepstakes can be broken down four basic categories:
*Online Entry: These type of sweepstakes come from the largest companies (Ebay, CBS, Quaker, Chevrolet, History Channel, WE, Nickelodeon, Nike and more) to the smallest Mom & Pop web sites and operations. They offer everything from automoblies and cash to clothing, books, toys, calendars, DVDs and CDs. These sweepstakes are easy to enter and free. All you need to do is go to their web site, fill out an entry form and submit.
*Snail Mail Entry: These sweepstakes come from companies large and small as well, but you must either download and print an entry form or fill out a postcard and mail it. Many times, online sweepstakes and snail mail sweepstakes go hand in hand therefore offering you two options. Sometimes an online sweepstakes will offer a snail mail portion for all prizes left over and unclaimed called a "second chance sweepstakes". Entering snail mail sweepstakes can be costly, though, since you have to supply envelopes, cards, paper and postage.
*Ballot Box: Ballot box sweepstakes are usually found locally at banks, restaurants and various store fronts. Since it is a local sweepstakes, you are not against all residents of the US, therefore your odds of winning are higher.
*Text Messaging: Many television shows have sweepstakes that offer entry via text message. The costs for an entry vary. Some of these contests offer free entries online....read the fine print and listen to the advertisement closely, it may save you some cash.
Sweepstakes Entry Requirements
Sweepstakes have various requirements for entry, some are simple, some more complex. They include:
*Simple entry* Essay* Code Required* Trivia* Scavanger Hunt*Newsletter Opt-In* *Membership*Tips*Watch and Win*Fantasy Leagues*Games*More*
Be sure and read the rules so you know what is required for entry.
Sweepstakes Services
There are many online sweepstakes "services" out there that find, list or even enter sweepstakes for you. Avoid any sweepstakes service that enters for you, no matter what the cost. Many of these services use "bots" or automated programs to go through thousands of sweepstakes and enter your information. Many sweepstakes fulfillment companies have gotten wise to this practice and have encoded little tricks into their entry forms. Even more sites have you enter an authentication code so they know it is a human being entering.
The best online sweepstakes sites are those who find, sort and list sweepstakes for you. They are categorized by start date and include such information as prizes, rules, type of contest, entry frequency and eligibility requirements. Many of these sites are free and some may offer a premium subscription you can purchase that provides to you added features and makes you privy to even more sweepstakes that are unadvertised.
Instant Win...Instant Gratification
Some companies run big sweepstakes that offer instant win prizes. You may play a game, spin a wheel, fill in a form, scratch a virtual gamepiece or use an online decoder but as soon as you click "submit" you find out right then that you've either won a prize or need to try again tomorrow. Of course, you may have to wait until the end of the contest to get your prize, but knowing it's on the way is exciting! For many sweepstakes entrants, instant wins are what keeps them modivated and breaks the daily grind of entering.
Tips For Winning
There are tips for winning, but no tricks. As I said before, it takes persistence. Follow these tips to increase your chances of winning.
1) Read the rules carefully. Many people disqualify themselves simply by not reading the rules. Many sweepstakes have age restrictions, restrictions on where an entrant lives and even an entrant's gender or type of employment. Read those rules or you might be wasting your time.
2) Check the entry frequency: Many people don't realize that you can enter a sweepstakes every day, weekly or monthly for the duration that the sweepstakes is open. You can find this information in the rules. So while you may enter once, sweepstakes entrant #5 entered 53 times and has a greater chance of winning.
3) Do not cheat!! As badly as you may want a prize, don't enter for your mother, brother, sister-in-law, neighbor and fifth cousin. Many fulfillment companies track ISP addresses and not email addresses. You may think by simply using another email address, you're safe, but the companies will see you're entering from the same internet service provider and disqualify all of your entries. Cheating also includes lying about your age, gender and that you're a beautician and you're really a construction worker.
4) Don't enter everything you see: The first mistake a new sweeper makes is entering everything they see. That wastes valuable time in addition to taking away a prize from someone who really wants it. Enter what you want, need or can use as a gift for someone you know. This allows you more time to enter a bigger variety of sweepstakes and keeps you from being overloaded.
5) Watch for codes!: Have you ever seen a sweepstakes advertised on a bag a chips or a bottle of lotion? Hang onto that code or UPC, read the rules on the package and enter! Some products include instant win game pieces. Read those as well to see if there is a second chance sweepstakes you can enter.
6) Local, local, local: Pay close attention to your local newspaper for sweepstakes. Check your bank and other store fronts nearby for ballot box sweepstakes. Another place to find sweepstakes abound are local radio station web sites. They're not just doing call-in contests anymore. Log on to your local television web sites as well. Some even have contest announcement newletters you can sign up for.
7) Download a form filler: Form fillers, unlike "bots" allow you to cache your personal information so with a click of the mouse, your sweepstakes forms are filled. These don't always work with flash sites, so be prepared to keystroke your information into the entry form. You still need to check your entry form after using a form filler to make sure things are correctly filled in. Also, read the rules to make sure it's not required to "manually keystroke" your entry.
8) Watch for the quantity of prizes: Some sweepstakes literally give out thousands of prizes. More prizes mean your odds of winning are much higher.
9) It's all in the numbers: Just entering a few sweepstakes probably won't render any results, but entering hundreds of sweepstakes increases your odds immensly. It takes time and alot of patience but is well worth it when the UPS driver is in your driveway at least once per week.
10) Be careful of sweepers burnout: You will get burned out. Pace yourself and when you get discouraged, take a break for a week or so, the sweepstakes will still be there when you return refreshed and modivated.
11) Taxes: Yes, that nasty word just has to rear it's ugly head, but it's very important to keep taxes in mind. The general rule of thumb is that prizes under $500 are not taxed, anything over that is taxed and needs to be reported. You'll receive tax forms from the fulfillment company at the end of the year. So while that trip to Hawaii may look good, make sure you can afford the taxes before you enter.
12) Snail Mailing: If you're entering snail mail sweepstakes make sure your form is the correct size. When packaging your forms, use colorful envelopes or some with texture to draw attention. This Ebay store has a beautiful collection of colored envelopes, shaving cream envelopes and post cards. Puzzles Postcards and More http://stores.ebay.com/Puzzle-Postcards-and-More Also keep pleanty of postage stamps handy so you can mail your entries right away. If it's a daily snail mail sweepstakes, make sure your entries are postmarked on different days.
Misc. Things To Know
There are just a few more things you need to know before you venture into the world of sweepstakes.
*Be patient! Although you have entered 200 sweepstakes, it usually takes months before prizes start showing up. You won't always know you have won, often times a prize will just show up in the mail.
*Expect spam. Yes, you will see alot of spam when you start sweeping, more than you can possibly fathom. Set up a free email address that you use for sweepstakes and that only. Look for a free service that sorts out the bulk mail for you. Always check the bulk folder though, I have found some authentic winning emails there!
*Watch for scams! You will immediately start receiving "you won" emails. Look, first, at who sent it. Is it from a bona fide company you entered through? Or does the email sender have a name like "You Won" or "Congratulations"? True winning emails come either from a person or a fulfillment company and will have the name of the sweepstakes in the subject line. For example: "Congratulations! You have won the Ebay Guides and Reviews sweepstakes". If you're unsure, read the email. True winning emails don't involve lotteries out of the country or ask you to sign up for or purchase anything.
*Follow the sweepers code! Basically, don't cheat, enter only for what you really want or need. don't enter if you know you can't accept the prize and be happy for your fellow sweepers who do win!
*Watch for affidavits Affidavits often appear in the mail or by private carrier out of the blue. They are a form of sweepstakes notification that requires you send more personal information, a copy of your picture identification, you social security number and more.
Are you ready to win?
Start entering and good luck!
Orignal From: Sweepstakes Guide....Enter And Win!
The biggest misconception about sweepstakes is that no one really wins. As someone who has been extremely successful ($25,000 worth) over the past three years, I can tell you honestly that people really do win!
It takes some luck, yes, but moreso, it takes a system and persistence. You probably won't win if you simply enter a few sweepstakes, but if you enter them in quantity, you're very likely to see results.
Types Of Sweepstakes
Sweepstakes can be broken down four basic categories:
*Online Entry: These type of sweepstakes come from the largest companies (Ebay, CBS, Quaker, Chevrolet, History Channel, WE, Nickelodeon, Nike and more) to the smallest Mom & Pop web sites and operations. They offer everything from automoblies and cash to clothing, books, toys, calendars, DVDs and CDs. These sweepstakes are easy to enter and free. All you need to do is go to their web site, fill out an entry form and submit.
*Snail Mail Entry: These sweepstakes come from companies large and small as well, but you must either download and print an entry form or fill out a postcard and mail it. Many times, online sweepstakes and snail mail sweepstakes go hand in hand therefore offering you two options. Sometimes an online sweepstakes will offer a snail mail portion for all prizes left over and unclaimed called a "second chance sweepstakes". Entering snail mail sweepstakes can be costly, though, since you have to supply envelopes, cards, paper and postage.
*Ballot Box: Ballot box sweepstakes are usually found locally at banks, restaurants and various store fronts. Since it is a local sweepstakes, you are not against all residents of the US, therefore your odds of winning are higher.
*Text Messaging: Many television shows have sweepstakes that offer entry via text message. The costs for an entry vary. Some of these contests offer free entries online....read the fine print and listen to the advertisement closely, it may save you some cash.
Sweepstakes Entry Requirements
Sweepstakes have various requirements for entry, some are simple, some more complex. They include:
*Simple entry* Essay* Code Required* Trivia* Scavanger Hunt*Newsletter Opt-In* *Membership*Tips*Watch and Win*Fantasy Leagues*Games*More*
Be sure and read the rules so you know what is required for entry.
Sweepstakes Services
There are many online sweepstakes "services" out there that find, list or even enter sweepstakes for you. Avoid any sweepstakes service that enters for you, no matter what the cost. Many of these services use "bots" or automated programs to go through thousands of sweepstakes and enter your information. Many sweepstakes fulfillment companies have gotten wise to this practice and have encoded little tricks into their entry forms. Even more sites have you enter an authentication code so they know it is a human being entering.
The best online sweepstakes sites are those who find, sort and list sweepstakes for you. They are categorized by start date and include such information as prizes, rules, type of contest, entry frequency and eligibility requirements. Many of these sites are free and some may offer a premium subscription you can purchase that provides to you added features and makes you privy to even more sweepstakes that are unadvertised.
HARDY BOYS (Franklin W Dixon) Hardback Book Title List
The HARDY BOYS Mystery books are one of the most popular Children's Series Books of all time. Written by many authors under the name Franklin W Dixon, this series was first published by Grosset & Dunlap. Many of the titles were written by Leslie McFarlane.
When you pick up a copy of a Hardy Boys book, or any Grosset & Dunlap Children's book, the copyright date on the page does not always indicate when the book was printed. Grosset & Dunlap did not change the copyright each time the book was re-printed. A better indication of the book's age is the number of titles in the series and in other book series printed inside the book, on the dustjacket, or on the back of the book (for the picture cover copies). Hardy Boys books were re-written and updated in the 1950's-1960's, so a newer copyright date on an older title can also give you an idea of when the book was printed.
One of the well known guides for the Hardy Boys Series is "Hardy and Hardy Investigations." by Tony Carpentieri Many times you will see the "Guide" number of the book in an auction description. It indicates the year the book was printed, and the printing number of the book. So a book with a guide number of 1948A-13 was printed in 1948 and was the 13th printing of that title.
Books from #1 to #40 were printed in both dustjacket and picture cover editions. Books #41 to #58 were printed only in picture cover editions. The dustjackets were either in Yellow Spine dustjackets or Wrap dustjackets, both referring to the spine of the dustjacket. The boards of the book started out in a smooth red color, changed to a smooth brown, then to a brown tweed.
The titles printed in Hardback for the Hardy Boys Series are:#1 The Tower Treasure 1927#2 The House on the Cliff 1927#3 The Secret of the Old Mill 1927#4 The Missing Chums 1928#5 Hunting for Hidden Gold 1928#6 The Shore Road Mystery 1928#7 The Secret of the Caves 1929#8 The Mystery of Cabin Island 1929#9 The Great Airport Mystery 1930#10 What Happened at Midnight 1931#11 While the Clock Ticked 1932#12 Footprints under the Window 1933#13 The Mark on the Door 1934#14 The Hidden Harbor Mystery 1935#15 The Sinister Sign Post 1936#16 A Figure in Hiding 1937#17 The Secret Warning 1938#18 The Twisted Claw 1939#19 The Disappearing Floor 1940#20 The Mystery of the Flying Express 1941#21 The Clue of the Broken Blade 1942#22 The Flickering Torch Mystery 1943#23 The Melted Coins 1944#24 The Short-Wave Mystery 1945#25 The Secret Panel 1946#26 The Phantom Freighter 1947#27 The Secret of Skull Mountain 1948#28 The Sign of the Crooked Arrow 1949#29 The Secret of the Lost Tunnel 1950#30 The Wailing Siren Mystery 1951#31 The Secret of Wildcat Swamp 1952#32 The Crisscross Shadow 1953#33 The Yellow Feather Mystery 1954#34 The Hooded Hawk Mystery 1954#35 The Clue in the Embers 1955#36 The Secret of Pirate's Hill 1956#37 The Ghost at Skeleton Rock 1957#38 The Mystery at Devil's Paw 1959#39 The Mystery of the Chinese Junk 1960#40 Mystery of the Desert Giant 1961#41 The Clue of the Screeching Owl 1962#42 The Viking Symbol Mystery 1963#43 The Mystery of the Aztec Warrior 1964#44 The Haunted Fort 1965#45 The Mystery of the Spiral Bridge 1966#46 The Secret Agent on Flight 101 1967#47 The Mystery of the Whale Tattoo 1968#48 The Arctic Patrol Mystery 1969#49 The Bombay Boomerang 1970#50 Danger on Vampire Trail 1971#51 The Masked Monkey 1972#52 The Shattered Helmet 1973#53 The Clue of the Hissing Serpent 1974#54 The Mysterious Caravan 1975#55 The Witchmaster's Key 1976#56 The Jungle Pyramid 1977#57 The Firebird Rocket 1978#58 The Sting of the Scorpion 1979Unnumbered: Detective Handbook 1959
Genealogy and Ebay, general help for novices
I am not a professional genealogist, though I have taken a few classes at Colorado State University, online at Rootsweb, and a couple of seminars through local genealogy associations. I've been researching my family's history for over 25 years and my husband's family history for over 10 years. I'm hooked on it! I love the challenges, the people I meet, and sharing what I've learned. In this guide, I hope to share some of what I've learned with some of the novice genealogists or with some of the genealogists who are new to Ebay. This isn't going to be a step-by-step guide, but a more general guide that, I hope, will get you started in the right direction.
Genealogy on Ebay is not necessarily for the novice genealogist or the novice Ebayer. It can be a lot of fun. It can be a great place to meet other genealogists. It can also, at times, be a challenge. HOWEVER, I don't think the challenges should discourage the novice, because they are easily overcome.
THE NOVICE EBAYER
THE NOVICE EBAYER/COMFORTABLE GENEALOGIST
The challenges for the novice Ebayer come by not understanding how to buy, sell, and generally navigate Ebay. I don't have to give you that lesson here. Ebay has a terrific tutorial. After using that, if you still have questions, there are many specific guides, message boards, etc. for using Ebay.
What I would like to suggest to the novice Ebayer who is already a comfortable genealogist, is that you choose two or three items that you know something about, such as a book, a map, and a genealogy software product. Start searching for these items on Ebay using different search criteria. This will give you good practice even if the item isn't up for sale on Ebay! You'll be surprised what your search criteria does and doesn't find. Since you will be practicing to find things you already know a lot about, you can also get comfortable reading descriptions and choosing which ones appear to be the best choices to purchase. Once comfortable with the simple search and the advance search processes, you can move on to search for the more rare items and iclude using family names to see what turns up.
THE NOVICE GENEALOGIST
The challenge for the novice genealogist is not knowing what to be looking for on Ebay. The answer to that challenge is both simple and not so simple. The simple answer is look for EVERYTHING! ;)
The less simple answer takes some thought on the part of the new genealogist. Start by asking some of the following questions and write down the answers in a notebook:
How much do I really want to know?
Do I want to know only about my direct line (parents, grandparents, great-grandparents, and so on)?
Do I want to know about other, in-direct, family lines (aunts, uncles, cousins, great-aunts, great-uncles, first cousins once removed, second cousins, etc.)?
What do I want to know about these people?
Are birth and death dates enough?
Do I want to know where they were born, died, and were buried?
Do I want to know anything about how and where they lived, their religion, their medical conditions, occupations, etc.?
Genealogy can be as in-depth, or not, as the genealogist chooses. It can be anything from a weekend hobby to a paid, fulltime career working for other people. That's why it is important to start with the questions and form a real sense of what is the expected outcome of the research. These questions are good starters. Other questions may come to mind as the research progresses. Write the new ones down along with the old ones to keep the intent of the research in focus.
Learning Resources
Once you decide the answers to the questions mentioned above, there are many ways you can become a compentent family history researcher. I recommend you use as many of the resources as are available to you. Genealogists tend to be a friendly group of people who are always learning and usually willing to help other genealogists.
Resources:
How To Books, such as Genealogy 101: How to Trace Your Family's History and Heritage by Barbara Renick, National Geneaogy Society The Complete Idiot's Guide to Genealogy by Christine Rose and Kay Germain Ingalls Genealogy Online for Dummies by Matthew L. Helm and April Leigh Helm
Public and Private Libraries, such as Your own local public library reference or genealogy section, Your local family history center/stake at the Church of the Latter Day Saints (LDS) - you do not have to be a member of their faith to use these centers and the volunteer staff are nice and helpful people
Genealogy related websites
College and University classes
Local and online genealogy clubs and associations, you can usually find these through your local newspaper and libraries
local and online stores oriented to genealogy items
What To Buy On Ebay
When you feel like you are ready to start searching on Ebay for your genealogy items, you might be asking what yourself if Ebay is really a place to find anything helpful? The answer is a resounding YES!!! Here are just some of the things you might find while searching Ebay:
How To Books, Like those mentioned above and others such as those that are specialized about searches of countries and names.
Magazines, past issues of genealogy magazines
Software, including software to organize genealogy data, software that has data, and software with How To information.
Maps, new, used and antique
Census Records
Reference Books, new, used, and antique which can be helpful in understanding our older records
Bibles, old, lost family bibles that have family history written in them and still intact.
Other old family books
Photo Albums, old, lost and filled with family pictures
Photo Jewelry - It was once a practice to wear pictures of sweethearts and other loved ones on pins, stick pins, brooches and mourning jewelry as well as lockets. These often became lost in estate sales just like bibles and photo albums. They often have names or initials on them and genealogist use this jewelry, like photos, to look for clues. Antique photo jewelry is often found for sale on Ebay and sellers are usually willing to answer questions about the origin of the piece if it isn't in the description already.
Coats-of-Arms for family names, Here I would like to add a caution. Many names have a coat-of-arms associated with it because someone historically important with the same name had one, some long ago royal family had one etc. That doesn't mean it is YOUR family's coat-of arms. Also, there are many companies who will create a brand new coat-of-arms for your family. This coat-of-arms will be associated with your family name starting with your generation. This is fun. You might have a legitimate coat-of-arms out there for your family from long ago. Just be aware of what you are looking at! ASK QUESTIONS FIRST!
Materials for organizing hardcopy data, scrap booking materials, office needs, you name it - Ebay probably has it!
My family roots are German, so some example of books I might search for that are specialized are for German family research. The same types of specialized books are available for other family backgrounds and even occupations.
The Organized Family Historian: How to File, Manage, and Protect Your Genealogical Research and Heirlooms by Ann Carter Fleming, National Genealogy Society
Online Roots: How to Discover Your Family's History and Heritage with the Power of the Internet by Pamela Boyer Porter, National Genealogical Society
Finding Your German Ancestors: A beginner's Guide by Kevan M. Hansen
If I Can You Can Decipher Germanic Records (25th ed., 2002) by Edna Bentz
What To Sell On Ebay
When you finish with some of your How To Books, reference books, maps, census records, etc. and decide you won't be needing them in your home library, you can turn around and sell them right here on Ebay! You can also sell those miscellaneous items that you bought and found weren't so helpful because they didn't pertain to the right county or family name. Yes, we all make mistakes when we start researching our family history!! However, when buying on Ebay, remember ASK QUESTIONS BEFORE BIDDING OR BUYING! A good seller will be happy to help you make sure the item pertains to the right county or family name. Just don't expect them to give you the complete abstract!
If your like me, and frequent antique shops, flea markets, and garage sales, you might keep an eye out for some of those used, lost and antique genealogy items mentioned above. Even if you can't use them, someone else might. They may never make it to that little garage sale in Colorado if they live in Ohio, but they sure would love that How To Book, the picture of Great-Aunt Emily or the long lost family bible. If you put it up for sale on Ebay, they might just find it!
A Final Suggestion
Finally, I suggest creating an About ME page. People really do read them! On your ME page you can list that you are researching and some general information about your names. When you sell a genealogy item, you can direct people to your ME page to see the names your researching!
AND... Pass It On!
Remember how much time you spent learning how to be a family historian and genealogist? Remember how much time you spent learning how to use Ebay? Remember all the people who helped you by giving of their time and especially their patience? You can thank them with much more than a Thank You. You can exchange information with them that you have now collected and know they can use. You can ask permission of other genealogists to use their information before passing it on to others or publishing it. You can acknowledge other genealogists and their work whenever and wherever possible when they have contributed to your research. Most of all you can thank them when you always treat other genealogists, especially the novices, with care and patience!!!!
How To Books, such as Genealogy 101: How to Trace Your Family's History and Heritage by Barbara Renick, National Geneaogy Society The Complete Idiot's Guide to Genealogy by Christine Rose and Kay Germain Ingalls Genealogy Online for Dummies by Matthew L. Helm and April Leigh Helm
Public and Private Libraries, such as Your own local public library reference or genealogy section, Your local family history center/stake at the Church of the Latter Day Saints (LDS) - you do not have to be a member of their faith to use these centers and the volunteer staff are nice and helpful people
Genealogy related websites
College and University classes
Local and online genealogy clubs and associations, you can usually find these through your local newspaper and libraries
local and online stores oriented to genealogy items
What To Buy On Ebay
When you feel like you are ready to start searching on Ebay for your genealogy items, you might be asking what yourself if Ebay is really a place to find anything helpful? The answer is a resounding YES!!! Here are just some of the things you might find while searching Ebay:
How To Books, Like those mentioned above and others such as those that are specialized about searches of countries and names.
Magazines, past issues of genealogy magazines
Software, including software to organize genealogy data, software that has data, and software with How To information.
Maps, new, used and antique
Census Records
Reference Books, new, used, and antique which can be helpful in understanding our older records
Bibles, old, lost family bibles that have family history written in them and still intact.
Other old family books
Photo Albums, old, lost and filled with family pictures
Photo Jewelry - It was once a practice to wear pictures of sweethearts and other loved ones on pins, stick pins, brooches and mourning jewelry as well as lockets. These often became lost in estate sales just like bibles and photo albums. They often have names or initials on them and genealogist use this jewelry, like photos, to look for clues. Antique photo jewelry is often found for sale on Ebay and sellers are usually willing to answer questions about the origin of the piece if it isn't in the description already.
Coats-of-Arms for family names, Here I would like to add a caution. Many names have a coat-of-arms associated with it because someone historically important with the same name had one, some long ago royal family had one etc. That doesn't mean it is YOUR family's coat-of arms. Also, there are many companies who will create a brand new coat-of-arms for your family. This coat-of-arms will be associated with your family name starting with your generation. This is fun. You might have a legitimate coat-of-arms out there for your family from long ago. Just be aware of what you are looking at! ASK QUESTIONS FIRST!
Materials for organizing hardcopy data, scrap booking materials, office needs, you name it - Ebay probably has it!
My family roots are German, so some example of books I might search for that are specialized are for German family research. The same types of specialized books are available for other family backgrounds and even occupations.
The Organized Family Historian: How to File, Manage, and Protect Your Genealogical Research and Heirlooms by Ann Carter Fleming, National Genealogy Society
Online Roots: How to Discover Your Family's History and Heritage with the Power of the Internet by Pamela Boyer Porter, National Genealogical Society
Finding Your German Ancestors: A beginner's Guide by Kevan M. Hansen
If I Can You Can Decipher Germanic Records (25th ed., 2002) by Edna Bentz
What To Sell On Ebay
When you finish with some of your How To Books, reference books, maps, census records, etc. and decide you won't be needing them in your home library, you can turn around and sell them right here on Ebay! You can also sell those miscellaneous items that you bought and found weren't so helpful because they didn't pertain to the right county or family name. Yes, we all make mistakes when we start researching our family history!! However, when buying on Ebay, remember ASK QUESTIONS BEFORE BIDDING OR BUYING! A good seller will be happy to help you make sure the item pertains to the right county or family name. Just don't expect them to give you the complete abstract!
If your like me, and frequent antique shops, flea markets, and garage sales, you might keep an eye out for some of those used, lost and antique genealogy items mentioned above. Even if you can't use them, someone else might. They may never make it to that little garage sale in Colorado if they live in Ohio, but they sure would love that How To Book, the picture of Great-Aunt Emily or the long lost family bible. If you put it up for sale on Ebay, they might just find it!
A Final Suggestion
Finally, I suggest creating an About ME page. People really do read them! On your ME page you can list that you are researching and some general information about your names. When you sell a genealogy item, you can direct people to your ME page to see the names your researching!
AND... Pass It On!
Remember how much time you spent learning how to be a family historian and genealogist? Remember how much time you spent learning how to use Ebay? Remember all the people who helped you by giving of their time and especially their patience? You can thank them with much more than a Thank You. You can exchange information with them that you have now collected and know they can use. You can ask permission of other genealogists to use their information before passing it on to others or publishing it. You can acknowledge other genealogists and their work whenever and wherever possible when they have contributed to your research. Most of all you can thank them when you always treat other genealogists, especially the novices, with care and patience!!!!
